Deep crimson. Lively dark cherry, blackberry aromas with roasted chestnut, mocha notes. Richly flavoured and juicy with ample black cherry, blackberry fruits, fine chocolaty/ al dente textures and fresh acidity before finishing brambly and long. Drink now–2030 14.5% alc Kay Brothers Hillside 2020 Shiraz G 93+ Deep crimson. Lovely blackberry pastille, roasted chestnut aromas with mineral/ hint ferruginous notes. Richly concentrated palate with blackberry pastille, mulberry fruits, gravelly/chocolaty textures and noticeably resinous cedar oak. Finishes chewy firm. Still elemental, but very good density, and torque. Needs time for the oak to settle down and integrate. Drink 2024–2032 Angove McLaren Vale Family Crest 2020 Shiraz $25 G 93 Medium deep colour. Attractive blackberry, roasted hazelnut, dark chocolate aromas with flinty complexity. Fresh blackberry, black cherry fruits with some praline notes, fine chocolaty textures and some savoury/ spicy nuances. Finishes graphite/ ferruginous firm and minerally. Very good concentration and vigour. Drink now–2030 13.5% alc Aramis Vineyards The Governor 2015 Shiraz $300 G 93 Deep crimson. Complex roasted chestnut tobacco leaf, blackberry liquorice aromas. Richly concentrated wine with ample dark berry fruits, fine chalky firm tannins, roasted chestnut/sesame/ cedar notes, and some tobacco/ earthy complexity. Finishes chocolaty and long. Drink now–2028 14.5% alc Bec Hardy Wines Pertaringa Lakeside 2021 Shiraz $18 G 93 Medium deep colour. Fresh red currant, raspberry, black cherry aromas with some roasted walnut notes. Generous and softly textured wine with abundant red and dark berry fruits, fine loose-knit chocolaty textures and integrated fresh acidity. Finishing velvety and minerally, this is a brilliantly made commercial Shiraz. Drink now–keep for a while 14.% alc
