Well-concentrated raspberry, cranberry, dark cherry fruits, plentiful graphite/ al dente textures and some savoury complexity before a chewy and minerally finish. Drink now–2028 Gemtree Wines Obsidian 2020 Shiraz $100 G 93 Deep crimson. Attractive dark chocolate, blackberry aromas with roasted walnut/ roasted chestnut/ ginger notes. Blackberry, dark chocolate flavours, cedar firm tannins and plentiful roasted walnut/ roasted chestnut/ vanilla complexity with a sweet and sour finish. Power and elegance. Drink 2024–2034 Hugh Hamilton Wines Black Blood II 2020 Shiraz $84 G 93 Deep crimson. Blackcurrant, bush-garrigue aromas with praline notes. Inky textured wine with smooth dark berry fruits, integrated roasted chestnut/ mocha oak notes and fine loose-knit chalky firm/ graphite tannins. Very well-balanced wine that finishes chocolaty firm. Drink now–2020 14.8% alc Kay Brothers Hillside 2019 Shiraz $49 G 93 Medium deep crimson. Intense liquorice, dark chocolate, blackberry with star anise notes. Sweet liquorice dark chocolate, blackberry fruits, fine chewy tannins and underlying roasted walnut, bourbon complexity before a chocolaty firm finish. Old fashioned yet classic.
