Deep crimson. Intense blackberry, mulberry aromas with briary, praline, hint bush-garrigue notes. Inky deep blackberry, dark chocolate, mocha flavours, fine loose knit al-dente/ graphite textures and some chinotto, ferruginous notes. Finishes bittersweet with lovely mineral length. A very expressive single-block wine, with superb fruit definition, density and vigour. Keep for a while to allow all the elements to fold into each other. Matured in new (20%) and seasoned French oak for 20 months. Drink 2024–2032 14.5% alc Hugo Wines 2020 Shiraz $27 G 95 Medium deep crimson. Fresh blackberry, mulberry aromas with vanilla spice notes. Inky textured wine with ample blackberry, mulberry fruits, fine loose-knit supple tannins, some mocha/ vanilla complexity and well-integrated acidity. Finishes velveteen firm with attractive mineral notes. Lovely buoyant fruit with all the elements in symmetry and very good value. Drink now–2028 14% alc Mr Riggs J.F.R. 2019 Shiraz $50 G 95 Medium deep crimson. Attractive dark cherry, blackberry pastille, hint marzipan/ roasted chestnut aromas with ferruginous notes. Full-bodied style with dense dark cherry, blackberry, liquorice flavours, fine loose knit chocolaty tannins and integrated marzipan, roasted walnut complexity. Finishes firm and minerally with very good density and torque. A classic McLaren Vale Shiraz. Drink now–2034 14.5% alc Oliver’s Taranga Shiraz 2021 Shiraz $30 G 95 Medium deep crimson. Intense blackberry, brambly aromas with vanilla/ mocha notes. Well-balanced and classic in structure with deep- set blackberry, brambly fruits, fine gravelly/ slinky textures, very good mid-palate richness and underlying mocha oak. Lovey fruit sweetness, complexity and mineral length – extraordinary value. Drink now–2028 Oliver’s Taranga HJ ‘The Greats Reserve Series’ 2020 Shiraz $75 G 95 Deep crimson. Espresso, panforte, dark cherry, plum aromas with mocha notes. Smooth velvety wine with ample choc-berry fruits, panforte notes, fine ripe tannins and integrated mocha, vanilla, peat smoke complexity. Finishes chocolaty and long. A sweet and savoury wine with linear fresh acidity that is worth keeping for a while to let the elements fold together. Drink now–2032 14.5% alc
