Deep crimson. Intense dark plum, blackberry aromas with graphite, black olive, wax polish notes. Beautifully concentrated and generous dark plum, blackberry, roasted nut, panforte flavours, fine smooth chocolaty textures, lovely mid-palate richness and underlying mocha, roasted chestnut notes. Finishes bittersweet and minerally; a classic McLaren Vale Shiraz showing ample dark berry fruits, superb volume and gentle vigour. Drink 2025–2034 14% alc SC Pannell The Vale 2018 Shiraz Grenache $40 G 96 Medium deep colour. Complex and expressive dark plum, dark chocolate, roasted almond with star anise notes. Generous and richly flavoured with dark plum, blackberry pastille, hint strawberry fruits, gravelly tannins and integrated roasted walnut/ liquorice complexity leading to a slinky, minerally finish. Lovely fruit complexity, volume and texture. Drink now–2030 14.5% alc Wirra Wirra RSW 2019 Shiraz $70 G 96 Deep crimson. Sesame, blackberry, mocha aromas with aniseed notes. Lovely concentrated blackberry pastille flavours, fine chocolaty/ velvety textures, very good mid-palate density and attractive mocha vanilla complexity. Finishes chocolaty, minerally and finishes claret firm. Drink now–2035 14.5% alc Bekkers 2020 Syrah $120 G 95+ Deep colour. Intense peppercorn, chinotto, elderberry, blackberry, star anise aromas. Chocolaty textured, touch al dente wine with elderberry, blackberry bitter chocolate flavours, firm cedar/ stalky tannins and integrated fresh acidity with lovely volume and richness. Elemental, a touch stalky, but very good persistence and mineral length. Needs time to settle. Drink 2024–2032 14.5% alc Hardy’s Eileen Hardy 2019 Shiraz $120 G 95+ Deep colour. Intense blackberry, black olive, graphite aromas with roasted walnut/ chinotto notes. Concentrated blackberry, dark chocolate, black olive flavours, fine chocolaty/ brambly textures and integrated roasted walnut/ roasted chestnut notes. Finishes claret firm with chinotto/ graphite/ cedar complexity. Profound and sturdy with all the elements aligned. A few years of bottle age will see the structure soften out. Wait and see. Drink 2025-2036
