Deep crimson. Intense dark cherry, blackberry, dark chocolate aromas with hints of black olive. Well-concentrated black cherry, blackberry fruits with underlying cedar, ample roasted chestnut notes and dense vigorous chocolaty/bittersweet tannins. Firm oaky/cedary finish with tail of seductive dark berry fruits. One for the long haul with a Grange- like density and character. 14 months in 82% new and 18% seasoned French oak hogsheads. Drink 2028 – 2048. 14.5% alc Poonawatta The 1880 Shiraz 2022 G 96 Deep crimson. Fresh dark cherry espresso aromas with herb/sage notes. Supple dark cherry pastille, roasted coffee, dark chocolate flavours, ripe velvety textures and well-integrated walnut, hint marzipan notes. Finishes chocolaty and long. Glossy, buoyant and well-balanced. Impressively statuesque. 100% 1880 vines. 2028–2040+ Schubert Estate The Gander Shiraz G 96 Deep crimson. Inky, graphite, black cherry, blackberry, hint stone fruit aromas with marzipan notes. Sweet-fruited, smooth blackberry, graphite, liquorice flavours, velvety textures, lovely mid-palate richness, underlying marzipan vanilla nuances and fresh mineral/chalky. Dense and chocolaty but excellent sheen, vinosity and freshness. A vinous paradox. Worth seeking out. Now–2040 Torbreck The Forebear Shiraz 2021 G 96 Deep crimson. Beautifully concentrated blackberry, panforte, espresso aromas with graphite, hint tobacco, smoky bacon notes. Dense chocolaty blackberry, stewed plum, panforte, roasted coffee, flavours, plentiful gravelly, chewy tannins, underlying roasted chestnut, marzipan notes and balanced fresh acidity. A tawny/tobacco complexity at the finish with fresh long acidity. Very complex and individual. Historic vineyard. 1850 Shiraz plantings. Now–2045 Two Hands Wines Coach House Block Shiraz 2023 G 96 Deep purple. Captures the intensity and richness of Barossa Valley shiraz, but for all its muscular power, it remains utterly compelling. Ripe, flavoursome black berries, cassis, plum with dark chocolate, earth, woodsmoke, wood spices and blackcurrant pastille notes on the bouquet. The fuller-bodied palate is complete with lovely tannins – fine edged-in harmony with a lavish embroidery of fruit, oak, cherry chocolate notes and black pepper. Shows class. Now–2043
