Deep crimson. Intense inky blackberry pastille, elderberry, blueberry aromas with walnut, dates, mocha/espresso notes. Deeply set blackberry, mocha flavours and concentrated, elemental, fine dense bittersweet, chalky/graphite tannins. Chocolaty velveteen finish. Acidity quite dominant. Buoyant and voluminous with lovely density and torque, but tannins will take some years to resolve. Tasted in magnum and bottle. 18 months in American oak hogsheads. 97% shiraz, 3% cabernet sauvignon. Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Coonawarra. Drink 2030 – 2060. 14.5% alc Elderton Helbig 1915 Shiraz 2024 G 97 Medium-deep crimson. Intense dark cherry, panforte, praline aromas with graphite notes. Smooth and velvety with classical dark cherry, panforte, mocha flavours, chocolaty textures, some marzipan notes and long fresh mineral acidity. Finishes chocolaty with a touch of cedar. From the 1915-planted Helbig Vineyard. Now–2042 Hentley Farm Clos Otto Shiraz 2023 G 97 Deep crimson. Wax polish, dark chocolate, dark cherry, spice aromas with espresso, marzipan notes. Voluminous and smooth with concentrated dark cherry, blackcurrant fruits, roasted almond, chestnut notes, fine grained/chocolaty textures and well-balanced line of acidity. Builds up chalky firm with richly flavoured dark berry fruits and wax polish notes. Elegantly powerful. Quintessentially Barossa. 2028–2045 John Duval Wines Eligo Shiraz 2022 G 97 Deep crimson. Attractive wax polish, dark cherry aromas with praline liquorice notes. Richly concentrated with pure black cherry, hint musky plum fruits, finely grainy tannins, wax polish nuances and roasted chestnut notes. Finishes claret firm with superb flavour length. Understated in its power yet showing superb fruit definition, volume and flow. Should develop and age very well. 2028–2045 Soul Growers Helbig Single Vineyard Shiraz 2024 G 97 Medium-deep crimson. Fresh complex black cherry, hint panforte aromas with praline notes and hints of dried roses. Refined and supple with pure black cherry fruits, some panforte, dark chocolate notes, lovely mid-palate richness/volume and integrated graphite/loose-knit chalky textures. Softly chalky and minerally at the finish. Singular in character highlighting masterful winemaking and elevage. Now–2040
