Orlando Steingarten Riesling 2024
G 95
Pale lemon. Youthful, emerging scents of dusty lemon, grapefruit, green apple, wet stone. Steingarten in name and in style, steely in character, firm and almost abrasive in acidity. This is a wine that will need more time, a lot more time. Emerging fruit coming into view in citrus skin, pith, grapefruit, a light cut green apple tartness comes with a mineral edginess and cut. Potential plus for extended ageing. Now–2046 Pewsey Vale Single Vineyard Riesling 2026 G 95 Pale yellow. Vibrant and youthful in white floral aromas, apple, Asian pear, Meyer lemon with soft aromatic musk. A real feature is the utter brightness of fruit and floral beauty of the wine, soft and tingly in acidity and going long on the finish. The middle palate is filling out with a floral prettiness, hints of jasmine and white flowers. Now–2043 Otherness Eden Valley, Skuld Riesling 2024 G 94 Highly fragrant in flinty, mineral, limes, lemons, white peach and hints of almond skin. Smooth, even and crisp on the palate with a racy acidity smartly in place. An individual style, showing an angular, wild citrus side to the grape with that will reward further ageing. Now–2034 Setiono Flaxman Valley Riesling 2024 G 94 Pale lemon yellow. Quiet, almost subdued to start, in citrus, Asian pear, spiced apple, preserved lemon, citrus peel. As it opens, there is a growing complexity and a rising note of baked bread, lanolin against a citrus and spice background. Runs deep as weight and texture gather through to a long finish. An individual style of riesling worth exploring. Now–2034 Henschke Peggy’s Hill Riesling 2025 G 93 Pale colour. Intense lemon, grapefruit, quartz-like aromas with lifted green apple/pear-skin notes. Slinky textured and pure with ample bitter lemon, grapefruit flavours, al dente/bittersweet textures and fresh long minerally acidity.
