Deep crimson. Complex black cherry, roasted chestnut, cedar aromas with praline. Beautifully balanced and richly flavoured wine with black cherry, roasted chestnut, smoky oak notes, supple chocolaty/touch graphite/muscular tannins and superb marzipan, vanilla complexity. Liquorice notes at the finish with lovely roasted chestnut, grilled almond notes. First growth elevage. 1958 shiraz plantings. Now–2045 Kaesler Wines Old Bastard Shiraz 2023 G 98 Medium-deep crimson. Lovely chinotto, pure blackberry, dark cherry aromas with attractive underlying roasted chestnut, hint vanilla notes. Superbly balanced wine with persistent chinotto, blackberry pastille flavours, slinky textures and underlying new oak. Finishes al dente firm and minerally. Excellent vinosity, presence and flow. Pretty good for an old bastard. Very good ageing capacity and potential. 2028–2040 Murray Street Greenock Estate Shiraz 2022 G 98 Deep crimson. Fresh panforte, dried plum, cassis aromas with praline/ espresso notes. Concentrated and smooth with classical choco-berry panforte flavours, ripe sinuous tannins and beautifully integrated new oak notes. Finishes chocolaty with a cedar/graphite plume. The underlying acidity gives line, tension and length. A reference vintage. Now–2042 Torbreck The Factor Shiraz 2023 G 98 Deep crimson. Fresh blackberry, ironstone, graphite, marzipan aromas with liquorice/aniseed notes. Massively concentrated with saturated black cherry. Blackberry pastille fruits, dense chocolaty firm tannins, superb mid-palate richness/sucrosity and integrated roasted chestnut notes. Finishes chocolaty, a touch juicy with a loose-knit graphite plume. Very impressive ultra-fine Barossa shiraz. Now–2040
