Generous, balanced and controlled with pure saturated dark plum, mulberry, praline flavours, lovely inky richness, sinuous chocolaty/ velvety tannins and underlying roasted chestnut notes. Finishes firm and minerally with a lovely silky/ feathery plume. 95% merlot, 5% cabernet franc. 13.% alc Château Trotanoy 94–95 well. 100% merlot. Château Séraphine Deep crimson. Intense dark plum, black cherry, dark chocolate/ carob aromas with graphite inky notes. Supple chocolaty wine with abundant musky plum, mulberry, kirsch fruits, fine chocolaty/ chalky textures, some spicy notes and vanilla/marzipan/roasted chestnut. A touch soupy at the finish. 100% merlot. Les Pensées de Lafleur (de Château Lafleur) 94–95 Deep crimson. Intense plum rose garden aromas and flavours with graphite chocolate notes. Voluminous, supple and sweet fruited with fine plentiful chalky silky tannins, very good mid-palate viscosity and mineral length. Lovely freshness. Very good wine. Based on a slash of plots through the Lafleur vineyard grown on bluestone iron. 59% merlot, 41% cabernet franc (bouchet). Château Clinet 93–94 Deep crimson. Polished dark plum, blackcurrant wood varnish aromas with star anise notes. Well concentrated dark plum, blackcurrant, cedar wood notes, fine supple bittersweet tannins. Firm chestnut finish. Very good use of new oak in the wine. 75% merlot, 25% cabernet sauvignon. 16+ months in new and seasoned oak. 13% alc Château L’Eglise Clinet 93–94 Medium-deep colour. Abundant blackberry, dark plum aromas with liquorice aniseed notes. Richly flavoured and chocolaty with blackberry jam, dark plum fruits, plentiful brambly tannins and underlying toasty/ marzipan/ vanilla notes. Very good density and richness, but tannins are a touch rustic. Characterful vintage. 85% merlot, 15% cabernet franc. 75% new French oak. 14% alc
Château Nénin 93–94 Medium-deep colour. Intense dark chocolate elderberry, hint cola, roasted chestnut notes. Rich dark chocolate, raspberry, elderberry, al dente, inky density, chalky, some graphite notes. Quite chewy at the finish with espresso notes and very good structure. 64% merlot, 36% cabernet franc. 35% new French oak. 13.1% alc Château Plince 93–94 Deep colour. Intense dark cherry, dark plum violet aromas with espresso dark chocolate, roasted chestnut notes. Well balanced musky dark plum, roasted coffee, hint violet flavours, ample fine chalky/ al dente tannins and underlying roasted chestnut/ marzipan oak. Finishes chalky firm and long. 82% merlot, 18% cabernet franc. Domaine de L’Eglise 93–94 Deep crimson. Intense dark plum blackberry graphite, hint star anise aromas. Generous blackcurrant plum fruits brambly textures, attractive mid-palate buoyancy and underlying savoury oak. Finishes cedar firm. 92–93 Medium-deep colour. Fresh raspberry black plum blackberry praline. Concentrated black plum blackberry fruits, tobacco leaf with fine, leafy al dente tannins. Finishes chewy firm with very good mineral length and cedar oak. Should develop well. 84% merlot, 16% cabernet franc. 50% foudre/ 25% concrete tank, 8% amphora, 17% seasoned 2-year-old oak. Château Moulinet-Lasserre 92–93 Medium-deep colour. Black olive, dark berry, brambly aromas with herb notes. Attractive raspberry, black olive notes, brambly/ al dente tannins, malted toasty/ vanilla notes. Finishes chocolaty, sappy firm with very good mineral length. 75% merlot, 20% cabernet franc, 4.5% malbec, 0.5% cabernet sauvignon. Château Lagrange 91–92 Medium-deep colour. Intense plum, cassis, carob, slightly malty aromas. Well concentrated dark plum, chocolate, cassis malty flavours, fine slinky/ al dente tannins, some sappy notes.
