Finishes oaky firm with mineral/ graphite flavours. 12 months in around 30% new French oak. 13% alc Château Belgrave 87–88 Deep crimson. Blackcurrant, dark chocolate hint vegemite aromas. Concentrated almost soupy palate with dense blackcurrant, praline, hint carob flavours, fine chocolaty tannins, some cedar oak notes. Finishes chocolaty firm with mineral notes. 65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 5% petit verdot. Around 12 months in 33% new French oak. Madame de Beaucaillou (produced by Château Ducru-Beaucaillou) 87–88 Medium-deep crimson. Intense elderberry, cassis aromas with dark chocolate notes. Richly concentrated inky wine with abundant elderberry brambly flavours, sinewy/ leafy tannins and savoury oak notes. Very chewy, but slightly extractive wine.

Richly concentrated with blackcurrant dark cherry, chinotto flavours, fine bittersweet tannins and chewy toasty oak. Finishes a touch oily/ bitter. 65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 5% petit verdot. 12–14 months in around 30% new French oak. Château Coufran 86–87 Medium-deep crimson. Inky red cherry, cassis hint leafy aromas. Supple and sweet fruited with plentiful red cherry, redcurrant fruits with leafy, green notes and fine powdery tannins. 85% merlot, 15% cabernet sauvignon. 12 months in around 15% new French oak. 12.8% alc Château La Tour de By 86–87 Deep crimson. Blackcurrant, graphite walnut aromas with wax polish notes. Fresh blackcurrant, walnut wax polish flavours, fine loose-knit gritty/ brambly tannins. Structure dominates. 60% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot, 5% petit verdot. 12 months in 25% new French oak. 12.5% alc Château Maucaillou 86–87 Deep crimson. Lifted elderberry, crushed ant aromas with wax polish notes. Inky textured wine with elderberry, blackberry fruits, plentiful chewy tannins and savoury/ walnut oak notes. Finishes firm and tight.
