Chewy wine with plentiful blackberry, mulberry fruits, vigorous al dente/ brambly textures and underlying savoury oak/ roasted chestnut notes. Firm finish. 40% cabernet sauvignon, 34% merlot, 23% cabernet franc, 3% petit verdot. 20% new French oak. 13.1% alc Château Citran 90–91 Medium-deep crimson. Blackcurrant herb aromas with negroni notes. Well balanced wine with ample cassis, mulberry fruits, fine loose-knit vigorous/ cedary textures and integrated oak. Finishes firm with some leafy notes. Should develop richness with bottle age. 60% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot, 20% cabernet franc. 14 months in 30% new oak. 13% alc Château de Lamarque 90–91 Medium-deep crimson. Lifted blackberry, raspberry aromas with hint marzipan/ roasted almond notes. Smooth blackberry, cassis, chinotto flavours, fine loose-knit/ al dente bittersweet tannins, some savoury oak complexity and fresh long acidity. 55% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 15% petit verdot. 14 months in 20% new French oak. 13.5% alc Château Fonreaud 90–91 Medium-deep crimson. Dark cherry, blackcurrant, roasted chestnut, touch waxy aromas and flavours. Medium-bodied and oak dominant wine with plentiful toasty, roasted chestnut flavurs, some cassis notes and fine slinky dry tannins. Finishes firm with bittersweet notes. 50% cabernet sauvignon, 45% merlot, 5% petit verdot. 12 months in 30% new French oak. 12% alc Château Haut-Madrac 90–91 Deep crimson. Intense elderberry dark chocolate aromas. Sweet elderberry, dark chocolate flavours, fine chocolaty textures, very good mid-palate density and fresh long acidity. Finishes juicy and firm. Very good commercial style. 62% cabernet sauvignon, 38% merlot. Chapelle de Potensac (de Château Potensac) 89–90 Medium crimson. Raspberry, mulberry herb garden aromas. Richly flavoured raspberry graphite inky flavours, chewy brambly textures and savoury oak notes. Finishes grainy firm. 79% merlot, 17% cabernet sauvignon, 4% cabernet franc. 13% alc

Château La Lagune 94–95 Deep crimson. Classical blackcurrant cedar aromas with wax polish, chinotto notes. Well balanced cassis, dark cherry fruits, fine velvet/ cedar tannins and toasty notes. Finishes cedary firm. Very good mid- palate buoyancy and freshness. Blend is approximately 60% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 10% petit verdot. Around 18 months in 50% new oak. 13% alc Château La Tour Carnet 93–94 Deep crimson. Fresh blackcurrant, praline, walnut, fig aromas with some herb notes. Blackcurrant pastille, praline fig flavours, fine supple/ velvety textures, some vanilla oak notes and integrated fresh acidity. 60% merlot, 35% cabernet sauvignon, 4% petit verdot, 1% cabernet franc. 16 months in 30% new oak. Château Clarke 92–93 Deep crimson. Fresh blackcurrant, chinotto hint black olive aromas with toasty vanilla notes. Well concentrated blackcurrant, black olive toasty flavours, fine grainy/ al dente tannins, some savoury roasted walnut complexity and integrated fresh acidty. Finishes firm with an inky plume. 70% merlot, 30% cabernet sauvignon. 16 months in approximately 70% 92–93 Deep crimson. Blackcurrant, praline herb garden aromas with roasted chestnut notes. Generously concentrated wine with smooth blackcurrant/ blackberry, dark chocolate fruits, fine slinky textures and underlying malty oak notes. Finishes velvety firm. 60% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot, 5% petit verdot. Usually 12 months in around 30% new oak. 12.7% alc Château Cantemerle 91–92 Medium-deep crimson. Unforced and fragrant raspberry, blackcurrant, hint strawberry aromas with vanilla cedar notes. Fresh raspberry, redcurrant, cassis fruits, fine plentiful chalky tannins and attractive toasty vanilla oak complexity. Finishes cedary firm and minerally. 65% cabernet sauvignon, 21% merlot, 9% cabernet franc, 5% petit verdot. 12 months in 40% new French oak, 13% alc new French oak. 13% alc Château Fourcas Hosten
