2020 The Landing Syrah

Very shy nose, hint of black pepper. Medium-bodied, spicy and peppery with lovely red fruit overtones and freshness. Well balanced with excellent power and balance. Has plenty of potential. 2021 Chapel Hill The Vinedresser Shiraz G 92 Medium-deep crimson. Blackberry, blueberry, violet aromas with graphite/leafy notes. Well concentrated and buoyant on the palate with ample blackberry and blueberry fruits, fine loose-knit chalky tannins, some earthy/leafy notes, fine bittersweet tannins and fresh, long pronounced acidity. Now–keep for a while 2020 Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels Syrah G 92 Bright purple hue. Opens with red plum, mulberry, blueberry hint of peppery spice. Mid weight with plush, silky tannins, excellent freshness and intensity. Still elemental but very good structure, slightly foursquare green edge tannin before a long finish. 2022 Woods Crampton Single Vineyard Shiraz, Eden Valley Shiraz G 91 Medium-deep crimson. Attractive dark cherry, dark plum, hint ginger, hint sesame aromas. Fresh and smooth with ample juicy blackberry. Dark plum fruits, fine silky textures and underlying roasted walnut notes. Finishes chalky with hint flinty notes. Well balanced early- to mid-term drinking wine with ample fruit and vinosity. Now–2027 2022 Byron & Harold The Partners Shiraz G 90 Medium-deep crimson. Espresso dark chocolate, red cherry, raspberry, plum aromas and flavours, fine slinky dry textures, seductive sweet fruit notes and underlying roasted walnut notes. Finishes minerally and long. Now–2027 2021 First Drop Wines Home of the Brave Shiraz G 90 Opens with spicy red plum. Supple, plush and open-knit with chalky tannins. Hint of mint and eucalypt. Now–2028 2020 Craggy Range Le Sol Syrah G 90 60% whole cluster. Very reductive, still a hint of red plum. Very fresh acidity, quite lean, not looking open or generous at this stage. Chalky and closed.
