Le Carillon d’Angelus (de Château Angelus) 94–95 Medium-deep colour. Lovely pure elderberry, hint star anise, raspberry pastille aromas with a touch of dark chocolate. Well concentrated chalky- textured palate with blackberry raspberry pastille fruits and very good silky textures. Impressive elegant crunchy fruits at the finish – a very refined style. 80% merlot, 20% cabernet franc. 16 months in new (60%) and seasoned (40% – second fill) oak. Le Petit Cheval (de Château Cheval Blanc) 94–95 Medium-deep crimson. Graphite, lead pencil, blackberry pastille with rose garden notes. Lovely sweet-fruited palate with supple loose-knit chalky textures and very good mid-palate density. Leafy firm finish with mineral notes. Classically structured. Should develop very well. 13.1% alc Château Troplong Mondot 94–95 Deep colour. Intense dark plum, blackberry, graphite, wax polish dark chocolate aromas. Beautifully concentrated wine with lovely dark berry, graphite notes, fine bittersweet slinky tannins and chalky/ mineral notes. Finishes chalky firm with saline nuances. Classical Saint-Émilion. 13.5% L’if 94–95 Medium-deep crimson. Lovely elderberry, blackberry, vanilla aromas with some dark notes. Generous elderberry, blackcurrant blackberry flavours, fine cedar tannins, finishes chalky dry with bittersweet notes. Structured and linear but very good fruit definition. 79% merlot, 21% cabernet franc. 12–16 months in new (50%) and second-use (50%) French oak. Château Canon La Gaffelière 93–94 Medium-deep crimson. Intense dark cherry, blackberry aromas with vanilla hint toasty notes. Well balanced wine with generous dark cherry, blackberry fruits, fine loose-knit chocolaty tannins and plentiful vanilla roasted chestnut notes. Very good density, richness and vigour. 35% merlot, 45% cabernet franc, 20% cabernet sauvignon. 16 months maturation in new and seasoned oak. 13% alc Château Chantecaille Clauzel 93–94 Medium-deep crimson. Pure dark plum, graphite aromas with toasty elements. Elegantly structured wine with fresh juicy dark plum, blackberry fruit, lovely mid-palate density and fine supple tannins. Chalky mineral finish. Lovely precision, balance and energy. 80% merlot, 20% cabernet franc. 13% alc

Château La Serre 93–94 Medium-deep colour. Baked plum, dark chocolate, hint marzipan/ panforte aromas. Generous and inky textured with dark plum, dark chocolate fig fruits, fine grainy/ leafy firm textures, some malted toasty notes. Finishes bitter firm with fresh long acidity. 80% merlot, 20% 93–94 Deep colour. Intense dark chocolate, espresso, with herb notes. Richly flavoured with densely packed espresso elderberry blackberry fruits, plentiful vanilla/ malt notes. Finishes chocolaty/sinewy firm. Quite extracted and difficult to see an arc of development. 52% merlot, 30% cabernet franc, 18% cabernet sauvignon. 14% alc Château Peymouton 93–94 cabernet franc. Château Pavie Medium-deep colour. Dark plum. Blackberry aromas with herb garden and star anise notes. Plush supple wine with plentiful red and dark berry fruits, ripe chalky tannins and underlying savoury oak. Lovely buoyant fruit. Very well made wine. 82% merlot, 10% cabernet franc, 8% cabernet sauvignon. Château Valandraud 93–94 Deep crimson. Fresh dark plum, praline, hint liquorice aromas with herb garden notes. Dense, brambly textured wine with ample dark plum, dark cherry fruits, fine graphite muscular tannins and underlying toasty/ vanilla/ espresso notes. Finishes sappy firm. Bouyant with a sinewy structure. 85% merlot, 9% cabernet franc, 6% cabernet sauvignon. 18–24 months new oak. 13.5% alc La Chapelle d’Ausone (de Château Ausone) 93–94 Medium-deep crimson. Very fresh redcurrant, plum praline aromas with leafy herb notes. Beautifully concentrated and minerally with redcurrant, dark plum espresso/mocha notes, fine slinky/ al dente tannins, and some savoury oak complexity. Finishes leafy firm and long. 75% cabernet franc, 25% cabernet sauvignon. Vinification in oak vats, followed by 20 93–94 Medium-deep crimson. Complex chinotto, red cherry, redcurrant, blueberry aromas with lifted church spices/frankincense, malty notes. Lovely well rounded wine with fresh raspberry blackberry fruits, fine powdery tannins, underlying savoury complexity, very good mid-palate richness and mineral length. Unforced and finely balanced. 85% merlot, 10% cabernet franc, 5% cabernet sauvignon. 13.5% alc months’ maturation in French oak. Petit Cantenac (de Clos Cantenac)
