Château Belair-Monange Score 96–97 Deep colour. Fresh dark cherry, dark chocolate, inky graphite aromas with marzipan notes. Generously concentrated with ample dark cherry, blackberry fruits, fine slinky/ silky textures and hint roasted chestnut/ marzipan oak. Very good mid- palate viscosity. Finishes al dente firm with lovely mineral length. Very classical in structure and concentration with a great future. Absolutely top notch. 99% merlot, 1% cabernet franc. Château Cheval Blanc Score 96–97 Deep crimson. Fresh blackcurrant pastille, graphite, toasty vanilla aromas. Lovely sinuous flow on the palate with plentiful blackcurrant, blackberry fruits, chocolaty textures and hint vanilla notes. Firm graphite/leafy finish. Very good mid-palate tension, density and bittersweet notes. 43% merlot, 52% cabernet franc, 5% cabernet sauvignon. 13.25% alc Pomerol Rigorous management led to some very smart wines being produced in Pomerol. Ch Petrus, Ch Lafleur, Vieux Château Certan, La Conseillante. L’if, Le Pin and Ch L’Évangile showed great promise. The Lilliputian estate Ch Séraphine, Ch Gazin and Ch Le Bon Pasteur also produced exemplary vintages. Château La Fleur-Petrus Score 96–97 Deep crimson. Intense dark chocolate, dark plum, kirsch aromas with malty/ vanilla notes. Very textural wine with ample dark berry fruits, fine loose-knit chocolaty textures, superb mid-palate richness/ density, vanilla marzipan notes and integrated mineral acidity. Chocolaty finish. Beautifully balanced and unforced wine. 95% merlot, 4% cabernet franc, 1% petit verdot. Château Lafleur Score 96–97 Deep colour. Dried roses plums, panforte, violet aromas. Richly concentrated plum blackberry fruits dried rose notes, fine plentiful chalky gravelly textures and underlying roasted chestnut flavours. Lovely richness and volume. Dense chocolaty dusty finish with chinotto red liquorice notes. A touch heavier than Petrus but beautiful complexity and line. 48% merlot, 52% cabernet franc (bouchet). 13.2% alc Château Latour à Pomerol Score 96–97 Medium-deep crimson. Intense dark chocolate, praline, dark cherry/ kirsch, dark plum aromas with herb garden notes. Generous, almost creamy smooth with dark plum, kirsch, dark chocolate flavours, fine velvety smooth tannins and fresh long minerally acidity. Finishes chocolaty firm. A standout wine. 100% merlot
