Medium-deep crimson. Fresh expressive blackberry, dark plum, dried roses, herb garden, vanilla aromas. Generous blackberry, dark plum, bitter chocolate, chinotto flavours, fine bittersweet textures, mocha, vanilla oak, dark chocolate complexity. Finishes sinewy and minerally. (50% mataro/ 50% shiraz) Drink 2024–2032 Soul Growers 106 Vines Mourvèdre 2019 G 95 Deep crimson. Lovely expressive dark chocolate, blackberry jam, mocha, liquorice aromas. Ample dark berry fruits, chocolaty, mocha oak notes, fine supple tannins and integrated acidity before a claret-like finish. Velvety smooth and beautifully balanced wine with lovely mid-palate richness and maturation characters. Drink now–2028 Hewitson Old Garden Vineyard Mourvèdre 2020 G 95 Medium-deep crimson. Intense black cherry, redcurrant, red plum aromas with vanilla, hint marzipan, hint peppercorn aromas. Richly flavoured black cherry, leafy, spicy, graphite flavours, loose-knit fine slinky/ al dente tannins and underlying vanilla, mocha oak notes. Finishes firm with crunchy notes. Elemental, quite vigorous and juicy. Needs to settle down, but very good density. Drink now–2032 Two Hands Anteros Mataro 2019 G 94 Deep colour. Complex dark chocolate, dark berry aromas with herb garden, star anise notes. Well concentrated and richly flavoured dark berry, red cherry, praline flavours, plentiful chocolaty/ chalky tannins and underlying savoury biscuity carob notes. Finishes chewy firm and minerally with persistent dark fruits. Drink now–2028 Hayes Family Wines Alice’s Mataro 2021 G 94 Deep crimson and a touch rustic with meaty, dark berry fruits topped by mocha praline complexity. Densely concentrated on the palate with blackberry, dark cherry fruits, plentiful brambly al dente tannins and underlying mocha, spicy notes before finishing cedary firm and spicy. Drink 2023–2032 John Duval Wines Annexus Mataro 2018 G 94 Medium-deep colour. Dense and attractive aromas of raspberry, praline and roasted walnuts. Well developed on the palate with plentiful raspberry, redcurrant, dark chocolate, roasted walnut flavours, fine sinewy textures, attractive mid-palate richness and long minerally acidity. Firm but fine tannins drive a vigorous finish. Drink now–2028
