Medium-deep crimson. Intense blackberry, mulberry, dark chocolate aromas with star anise/ olive tapenade notes. Generous and fleshy with plentiful mulberry, blackberry fruits, fine velvety textures, some mid-palate viscosity and underlying savoury notes. Finishes chalky dry, minerally and long. From 1870s vines. Now–2028 St Hallett Blackwell Shiraz 2019 G 94 Deep crimson. Fragrant star anise, elderberry, blackberry aromas with underlying spicy/ roasted walnut, cigar box notes. Well concentrated but compact with blackberry, redcurrant fruits, vigorous fine chalky /al dente tannins, plentiful cedar/ vanilla oak notes and persistent acidity. Finishes firm and drying with bittersweet notes. Still elemental. 2023– 2030 Two Hands Holy Grail Shiraz 2020 G 94 Deep crimson. Intense blackberry, hint stonefruit, aromas with graphite, roasted almond notes. Slinky textured wine with beautiful pure blackberry, plum, apricot flavours, fine loose-knit graphite/ gravelly tannins, superb suppleness and integrated mocha, cacao notes. A persistent inky/ minerally finish. Lovely elegance and fine-boned structure. Should develop more density and complexity with age. Keep for a while. Now–2032 Arila Gardens Quartz and Ironstone Gardens Shiraz 2020 G 94 Deep crimson and quite a savoury expression of Barossa Shiraz with intense blackberry, dark chocolate, grilled nut aromas with mocha notes plus lines of spice and minerality. Richly flavoured and inky with primary blackberry fruits, dark chocolate, mocha notes, it shows a fine brambly texture and integrated acidity before a long, ferruginous finish. This should develop very well. 2024–2032 Barossa Boy Wines Lifeblood Shiraz 2017 G 94 Deep crimson and a touch of development coming through but still drinking very well with intense dark cherry, dark plum and mocha oak aromas with black olive complexity. A sweet fruited style thanks to fleshy dark plum, dark cherry, blackcurrant and chinotto flavours with fine but vigorous chocolaty textures before finishing with mocha complexity. Now–2028
