Richly concentrated dark cherry pure blackcurrant cacao flavours, fine loose- knit chocolaty/cedar tannins and underlying roasted chestnut, marzipan vanilla notes. Wonderful mineral length, a heroic vintage. 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc. 14.5% alc Palmer 98–99 Deep crimson colour. Intense dark chocolate, blackcurrant, blackberry, roasted chestnut aromas. Generous and inky with plentiful sweet dark berry fruits, fine savoury chalky tannins, lovely viscosity, integrated marzipan/nougat oak and superb mineral length. Sweet fruits at the finish. Beautiful wine with superb definition and vinosity. 45% Merlot, 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot. Rauzan Ségla 96–97 Deep crimson colour. Beautifully defined wine with pure blackcurrant, cedar, marzipan, roasted chestnut aromas and flavours and persistent fine grainy tannins. Finishes bittersweet with chinotto notes. Lovely volume, richness and freshness – a beautifully balanced wine. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and minute parcels of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. 60% new oak.) Alter Ego de Palmer 95–96+ Deep colour. Liquorice, blackcurrant, black cherry, mocha, chocolate aromas with a touch of marzipan. Richly concentrated, chocolaty wine with ample dark chocolate, dark berry fruits, fine grainy tannins, very good volume with chinotto notes. A delicious wine. 51% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot. Cantenac Brown 95–96 Medium-deep crimson colour. Attractive blackcurrant, blackberry, dark chocolate aromas. Generous and supple with lovely dark berry fruits, dense chocolaty tannins and underlying savoury nuances. Some chinotto/bittersweet notes at the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc. 60% new oak.
