Impressively balanced wine with classic blackcurrant, cedar, hint marzipan/vanilla/nougat aromas and flavours, persistent grainy bittersweet textures, and superb mid palate density. Finishes cedar firm with aniseed notes. All the hallmarks of a classic claret style. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc. 60% new oak. Léoville Poyferré 95–96 Deep crimson colour. Dark cherry, dark plum, praline aromas. Buoyant, sweet and savoury wine with abundant dark berry fruits, lovely chocolaty textures and underlying marzipan vanilla notes. Very good richness and volume. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc. Around 80% new oak. Talbot 95–96 Deep crimson colour. Superb pure dark cherry, dark plum aromas with vanilla/marzipan notes. Very generous and supple on the palate with fresh dark plum. Cassis, dark cherry fruits, sinuous chocolaty textures and well balanced vanilla/marzipan oak notes. A classic vintage for Talbot. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc. 50–60% new oak. Branaire Ducru 94–95 Deep crimson colour. Ripe blackcurrant, mulberry, cacao aromas with some mineral notes. Generous and silky textured with ample dark berry/ plummy fruits, supple tannins and savoury notes. Builds up chalky and minerally at the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc. 60% new oak. Gruaud Larose 94–95 Deep crimson colour. Blackberry, black cherry cacao aromas with hints of vanilla/spice. Sweet fruited palate with plentiful blackberry, dark cherry fruits, supple grainy/velvety tannins and underlying vanilla oak notes. Finishes firm and tight. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, with small parcels of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. 85% new oak. Langoa Barton 93–94+ Medium-deep crimson colour. Blackcurrant, dark plum aromas with marzipan notes, fine grainy touch cedary tannins, very attractive inky density and mineral length. Plenty of vim, vigour and vinosity! Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc. 60% new oak.
