Summer Wine Guide 2023

2020 Aylesbury Estate The Pater Series Cabernet Sauvignon

G 92

Forward bouquet of blackcurrant and dried herbs. Full rich and powerful, broad shouldered with lashings of blackberry and blackcurrants supported by toasty oak. Generous in style with plenty of potential for the cellar. Now–2036 2021 Thompson Estate The Specialist Cabernet Sauvignon G 92 Blackcurrant and red plum on the bouquet with a hint of liquorice. Fuller bodied, showing power and opulence, but still contained within the frame of expectation. Backbone of ripe slightly grainy tannins in support. Finishes long. Looking a little bit shy, but with evident cellaring potential. Now–2036 2021 Chapel Hill The Vinedresser Cabernet Sauvignon G 92 Medium-deep crimson. Fragrant blackcurrant, herb garden aromas with cola notes. Plentiful cassis, herb, chinotto flavours and fine graphite/ leafy tannins. Finishes firm with attractive blackcurrant pastille notes. Medium-powered and early drinking wine with attractive density and freshness. Now–keep for a while 2018 Hutton Vale Farm Cabernet Sauvignon G 92 Medium-deep crimson. Intense black cherry, cassis, graphite with bitter dark chocolate. Crispy and juicy blackcurrant, blackberry, fine al dente, pippy ironstone tannins and underlying savoury hint vanilla/mocha oak. Chewy at the finish with fresh long acidity. French hogsheads, seasoned, and a touch new oak. Now–2030 2021 Chapel Hill The Parson Cabernet Sauvignon G 90 Medium-deep crimson. Intense cassis, redcurrant, leafy herb aromas and flavours, fine lacy tannins, attractive inky density and fresh long slurpy acidity. Firm touch ferruginous/bittersweet finish. Now 2020 Man O’ War Kulta Tytti Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot G 90 Bold nose of black plum, blackberry confit and vanillin. Trending towards full body, yet still good freshness, huge tannins with a hint of greenness. Finishes green and stalky. Likely currently in an adolescent phase and will knit together with some time.
