MF Wines Syrah 2023
G 91
The technique of semi-carbonic maceration has been used here, with eight months maturation in a combination of eight-month-old French oak hogsheads and puncheons. Just 1,910 bottles produced. A vibrant purple hue, this is a most aromatic effort, and unsurprisingly, it is cherries to the fore – black cherries, especially. In addition, there are notes of blackcurrants, cassis and liquorice. The texture has an appealing plushness, the acidity juicy, and the tannins sleek. There is attractive length here. A wine for enjoying over the next year or two. Drink now–2027 Millon Wines Reserve Shiraz 2021 G 91 Medium-deep crimson. Developed dried plum, hint carob aromas and flavours with raspberry liquorice notes. Drink now–soon Stage Door Wine Co Shiraz 2022 G 91 A fine Barossa Valley Shiraz, the colour of which is a vibrant, dark purple. The nose gives us notes of dark berries, soy, delicatessen meats, warm earth and dry herbs. A soft style, with emerging hints of that regional plushness, this is easily drinkable and of a style which almost makes a second glass compulsory. There are fine tannins and the wine is of medium length. Drink now–2033 Tarrawatta Wines Godswalk Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 G 91 Deep crimson. Black cherry, muligatawny aromas with mocha notes.
