Greenock Creek Apricot Block Shiraz 2023

G 95

Deep crimson. Intense raspberry, roasted walnut/ roasted chestnut/ marzipan aromas and flavours with leafy nuances. Silky smooth at first but builds volume and torque across the palate. Very good mid-palate density and impact. Finishes firm and juicy with bittersweet notes. Drink now–2034 HEAD Wines The Blonde Shiraz 2023 G 95 An opaque maroon. Mocha, chocolate, mulberries and plums. This is big, bold and plush, dense but dancing. The oak has been deftly handled and there is good intensity, richness and ripeness, which runs the full, very extensive length. Satiny tannins, good energy and fine acidity. To qualify for the Blonde, the grapes must be from overperforming vineyards and ‘have well-defined perfumes, textures and supple tannins’. The Eden Valley is a key contributor, and there is a dribble of Viognier included. Drink now–2040 Hoffmann Family Vineyards North Dallwitz Block Shiraz 2018 G 95 Deep crimson. Deeply set mulberry, blackberry, dark cherry, touch vintage port-like aromas. Massively concentrated and richly flavoured with blackberry apricot aniseed flavours, chocolaty textures, lovely mid- palate density and fresh linear acidity. Liquorice, wood smoke notes at the finish. Not for the faint-hearted or the pinot dilettante but very expressive nonetheless.
