Heggies Vineyard Estate Chardonnay 2023
G 92
The colour is a shining pale pineapple/lemon hue. A wine of elegance and refinement, there are gentle notes of nuts with peaches, grapefruit and lemongrass. The palate remains quite powerful throughout maintaining intensity with good length, but at all times, well balanced.
Drink now–2031. Schwarz Wine Co Meta Grenache Blanc 2024
G 92
Lemon with a touch of green. Stone fruit, peach, nectarine, citrus and florals, plus an intriguing hint of oyster shell, along with notes reminiscent of a gentle breeze through the orchards of the Med. The texture is a highlight, delightfully creamy, and there is a pleasing lingering finish. Grenache Blanc is rarely seen here, so this is an exciting find. Really worth your attention. Drink now–2030. Schwarz Wine Co The Grower Rosé 2024 G 92 As with the previous vintage, the blend here is 70% Grenache and 30% Mataro. This is a cracking rosé. A pale orange hue, the nose reveals notes of florals, rose petals, redcurrants and strawberries. A fresh and most appealing nose. There is a clean, dry finish here, though the exuberance of the flavours offers delicious fruit sweetness impressions on the palate. There is juicy acidity here, with good persistence and a lingering finish. The quality of Aussie Rosé has skyrocketed over the last decade or so and this is yet another fine example. For enjoying over the next couple of years. Drink now–2027 Schwarz Wine Co The Grower Chenin Blanc 2024 G 92 Part of the range celebrating the growers in the Barossa who provide so much of the fruit for the region’s great wines. It is encouraging to see them also offering some less trendy varieties. Chenin Blanc has a long history in this country, but it really should garner far more attention. It is one of those grapes that has strong varietal characters which so often stand out. Expect pears and apples, but there is usually another flavour/ character – some see it as an appealing cheesy touch, but for me, it comes across as a gentle hessian. This wine reveals all this. A pale straw, there are the lifted perfumes of the variety all in evidence. Bright pears, citrus, green apples, florals, a touch of lemon curd and that typical hessian. Good focus and some mouth-puckering acidity; the wine has impressive length. And like most Chenins, this will age well. Expect five to eight years of pleasure ahead. Drink now–2033
