Anvers Syrah 2022

G 92

G 91

Opaque ruby. Intriguing nose: salted plum, boysenberry, oyster shell, sumac and Dutch liquorice. Fruit presents sweet and fleshy with an edge of molasses viscosity. The palate reveals a black and blueberry medley backed by oyster shell minerality. Tannins, loose-knit and well integrated, propel the fruit towards a long, sustained finish. Worth reflecting. Drink now–2032 Vinteloper Chardonnay 2022 G 92 Clear with a faint straw. A ripe impression on the nose, lemon curd, white peach, nougat and a breath of honeysuckle. Beautiful density to the palate balanced by mouth-coating acidity. Lemon, nougat and a strew of baking spice come to an appealing bittersweet finish. Balanced duality of opulence and restraint. Drink now–2030 Wicks Estate Riesling Riesling 2024 G 92 Classic Riesling opening stanzas, aromatic with white orchard florals and cut apple squeezed over with lemon juices. The palate echoes all of that with purity and precision in the linear structures, citrus of course driving the flavours, while its pithy, zesty notes powder puff the finish. Big on refreshment. 12% alc Drink now–2034 Wicks Estate Chardonnay Chardonnay 2023 G 92 Gold with a light green tinge. Classic varietal impressions, with a faint oak spice to start, then a fast dive into a spritely palate, lively with acidity and fresh, bright fruit and citrus, stone fruit flavours remaining stoic and pure across the lines. Refreshing. 12.5% alc Drink now–2030 Wicks Estate C.J. Wicks Chardonnay Chardonnay 2022 G 92 Light to mid gold. Smart fruit with fine oak spice. Mouth-filling texturals, and ripe Chardonnay flavours lightly smacked acidity. A decent savoury interest, as well, gives this wine some complexity in the finish. 13% alc Drink now–2030 Wotton Pinot Rosé Sparkling 2021 G 92 Light onion-skin blush. A complex autolytic nose, showcase of pistachio, brioche and a splash of rose water. The Pinot provides serious structure and drive, white strawberry and by way of the lees a whipped berry yoghurt flavour. An appealing pithy sherbet finish makes for a sparkling of depth and intrigue. A favourable dinner party guest. Traditional method. Drink now–2030

Medium-deep ruby. Bright vibrant style, raspberry coulis, blackcurrant pastille, choc bullets, sarsaparilla spice with a touch of gravel and star anise warmth. Clean and pure in style with coiled acidity and slightly raw tannins. Appealing sweet–sour combination of fruit charged by chai black tea spice. A tightened close, finishing grippy and fresh. A new generation of Syrah. Drink now–2026 Art Wine Bianca Prosecco Sparkling NV G 91 Clear lemon. Fresh lemon, tinned pear in juice and honeysuckle. Acidity leaping out the glass, fresh in flavour and everything you’d want in a Prosecco. Garbed in an appealing foamy mousse, the palate sees a dollop of honey in its centre and ocean spray freshness tapering with the finish. A jovial wine. Drink now–2026 Barristers Block Sauvignon Blanc Sauvignon Blanc 2024 G 91 Familiar herbal and tropical aromatics, pithy lemon/lime acidity in the mouth, quite overt, almost over-anxious, with all the zest and flavour in the right place, mid palate and onwards, nice and easy. 12.5% alc Drink now–2026 Cape Barren Native Goose Sauvignon Blanc Sauvignon Blanc 2023 G 91 Nicely roasted tropical fruit notes, some depth in the nose, creamy passionfruit-like yoghurt suggestions, some tang in the palate without acid creep, with a tapering finish. Nicely weighted and shaped. Drink now–2027 Charlotte Dalton Wines Aerkeengel Semillon Semillon 2020 G 91 Buckle in here, as this angel is no shrinking violet. Barrel aged on full lees for close to 2 years, its aromas suggest cut hay and brewing apple cider, with a palate that is tangy yet rich – rich, minerally and creamy, custard tart vibes in part, spiced apples

for fruit feels. Style conscious. 11.9% alc Drink now–2028 Charlton Dalton Wines A Change is Gonna Come Pinot Noir Pinot Noir 2024

G 91

From the Piccadilly Valley, a same-year release, fresh and tangy, plenty of flesh and a bit of funk to begin, with more of a crimson fruit feel, raspberry and cherry, some skin and minty/woody tannin adding a grounding in the palate. Quirky yet fascinating. 13.7% alc Drink now–2030
