BOUTIQUE WINE AWARDS
SOUTH AUSTRALIAN MEDAL AND TROPHY WINNERS
Despite another tough and challenging year in the trade, we managed to buck the trend by recording the third-highest number of entries ever received in the Boutique Wine Awards 29-year history. Its hard to believe that 2025 will mark 30 years - we must be doing something right! Toni Paterson MW, our incredible chair, was very involved this year putting together one of the best judging panel line-ups we’ve ever seen. The level of talent and experience gathered in one room was quite staggering. Toni’s analytical approach to the judging process and arrangement of the personnel in each panel ensured that each wine entry was given the best opportunity to shine. South Australian entries made up 35% of all entries this year and showcased the state’s depth and diversity. South Australia secured 5 of 18 trophies in this year’s awards – Riesling, white blends, Grenache, Italian red varietals and other red varietal classes. This was backed up with 21 gold medals, 47 silver medals and 118 bronze medals. The Barossa Valley, Adelaide Hills, Clare Valley, McLaren Vale, and Eden Valley stood out as the state’s top-performing regions. South Australia excelled in several classes, most notably: • Shiraz: South Australian entries dominated this class with numerous medals. • Riesling: Clare and Eden Valleys were benchmarks, particularly in aged and single-vineyard styles.
• Chardonnay: Adelaide Hills led the class, showcasing finesse and complexity. • Emerging Varietals: Grenache, Montepulciano, and Tempranillo highlighted the state’s innovation and adaptability.
Congratulations to the South Australian trophy winners Erin Eyes from the Clare Valley, Hahndorf Hill from the Adelaide Hills, Purple Hands from McLaren Vale with 2 Trophy Wins, and Fernfield Wines from the Eden Valley. Thank you to all wineries that entered and continue to support this amazing boutique family despite the ongoing challenging times. Your support is greatly appreciated and never taken for granted. We have once again unearthed some amazing wines for you, the consumers, and I encourage you to reach out to all these wineries and support them directly. As the festive season arrives, support the small winemakers and buy direct ... #buyboutique Ross Anderson Director Boutique Wine Awards
