d’Arenberg The Footbolt Shiraz 2021

G 90

A heady mix of blackberries, smoked cherries and pomegranate juice. Oak shows in sweet cigar clippings, mocha and espresso. Raspberries uncoil on the mid palate with a tread of fresh acidity and savoury red bean and cedar notes. Smooth tannins, and a good all rounder Shiraz to have with those thrown together, social occasions, sometimes they are the best. Drink now–2026 d’Arenberg d’Arry’s Original Grenache Shiraz 2020 G 90 65% Grenache 35% Shiraz. Here, the warmth of vintage shows in raspberry roll- ups, pandan leaf and tobacco pouch. Blood plums, squashed strawberries and soft liquorice. The palate is showing its layered spice and oak tones with cedar, chinchona bark and beef bones. Grenache’s endearing frivolity loosens the strings and allows the palate to feel more energetic than a straight Shiraz would. Some milk chocolate smoothness on the finish. Drink now Dandelion Vineyards Lion’s Tooth of McLaren Vale Shiraz Shiraz 2023 G 90 94% Shiraz and 6% Riesling. Black cherry, apricot kernel, juniper and dark clove studs. Violet and underbrush. There is an angularity to this wine with distinct olive brine and caper leaf. It’s enveloped in purple florals and hefty acidity. Tannins are

powdery and plush. Drink now–2028 First Drop Wines Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

G 90

A real mix of red and black fruit. Pomegranate, rhubarb and cassis. Graphite, bitter chocolate and leather boot polish. Elevated acidity and rivers of dusty tannins. Mocha, caraway and mace. Drinking well now. Its harmony of red fruit, in combination with a clear cabernet frame, makes it ideal for claret drinkers. Drink now–2028 Grant Nash Grenache Graciano Rosé Grenache Graciano 2024 G 90 A blend of 85% Grenache 15% Graciano. Watermelon rind, wild strawberry and pickled ginger. Pink Lady apple skin and running river stream. Peach skin and orange citrus on the palate with a supple flow of acidity. Dry and fresh. This is delicate enough to drink with sashimi but could handle some smoked fatty fish to cut through too. Drink now–2025 Haselgrove Wines Alternative Series Fiano 2024 G 90 Honeydew melon, green apple curls and backyard lemons. A touch of just ripe tropical fruits sits in the background. Yellow guava and passionfruit, acidity is voluptuous and pulpy. Lime skin and blackcurrant leaf on the finish. A Fiano for everyone, fruity but textural. It teeters on being round and ripe but then is pulled back in by its fresh crisp finish. Drink now
