Ivyburn Regional Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

G 93

The team source their Cabernet from the southern reaches of the Barossa. Under diam. The colour here is a deep, dark maroon/purple hue. The nose exhibits really appealing notes of chocolate, dried herbs, tobacco leaves, liquorice, sage and blackberries. Too many dismiss the glories of Barossa Cabernet, assuming the region is not suited to this noble variety, but they are missing out. Sure, it is not going to fool anyone into thinking it is Bordeaux or even Margaret River, but good examples are generous and packed with flavour. Put simply, good examples are terrific drinking. This one exudes black fruits on a supple texture, with velvety tannins and fine acidity. An impressive lingering finish ties things together and the wine should provide pleasure for at least the next six to eight years. Drink now–2032 Jacob’s Creek Survivor Vines Riesling 2023 G 93 Pale colour, hint of straw. Beautifully perfumed and bright, with lemon, quince, orange blossom and slatey notes. Well concentrated with appealing fruit sweetness; lemon pith, lime juice, green apple and faint hint of spice. An elegant wine with mid-palate fullness complemented by a pleasing chalky finish.
