Dandelion Vineyards Lion’s Roar of the Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
G 93
The grapes are sourced from older vines which are located between Seppeltsfield Road and Marananga in the Barossa. Maturation is for 14 months in French oak barriques, 30% of them new. Dark maroon, there is some typical Cabernet austerity here with notes of tobacco leaves, cloves, aniseed, graphite, smoked meats, cold tea and axle grease. There is plenty of grip here and a lingering finish with good intensity. A wine which will be better in two to three years and then drink beautifully for the next decade. Drink now–2034 Dandelion Vineyards Wonderland of the Eden Valley Riesling 2024 G 93 Pale colour, green hue. Immediate elegance – beautifully perfumed, pure lemon, lime aromas with slatey nuances and a hint of white floral. Zingy acidity, well- concentrated lemon lime flavours, grapefruit pith – appealing line of purity. Refined poise and fruit clarity carried by chalky phenolics. Textural with a sweet–sour finish. 11.5% alc Drink now–2034 Eisenstone Greenock SR801 Shiraz 2022 G 93 From the Mattscheoss Vineyard, which is located on the western side of Greenock Creek, maturation is for 20 months in French oak, with 50% new. Just 800 bottles made. This is slightly more fleshy than some in the Eisenstone range, but nothing wrong with that. An appealing and approachable style which many will adore, the colour is a near black/magenta. The nose provides alluring notes of dark chocolate, aniseed, beef stock, axle grease (in the most positive way), blackberries and miso. A supple and generous texture here, that bright acidity runs the length, which is seriously impressive, and the tannins are as silky as anyone could wish. A delicious Barossa Shiraz with at least eight to 10 years ahead of it. The nose is oozing chocolate and mocha, with miso, coffee beans and soy, along with notes of tobacco leaves and black fruits. There is a delightfully supple texture here. The oak is superbly handled, the acidity bright and the structure seamless. A wine of very good length and balance with sleek tannins. A very fine Barossa Valley Shiraz which will continue to impress for at least the next eight to 10 years. Drink now–2034
