Deep crimson. Dark cherry, dark plum, mocha, malt aromas with liquorice/graphite notes. Developed palate with dark cherry, choco-berry fruits, dense ripe tannins, attractive mid-palate volume and well-balanced mocha, vanilla, malt notes. Some ferruginous firmness at the finish. All the elements well-knitted through bottle age. 14.5% alc Drink now–2029+ Paulmara Estates Syna Shiraz 2020 G 94+ Deep crimson. Ultra ripe blackberry, black cherry liqueur, dark chocolate aromas. Substantial and concentrated wine with deep-set blackberry, black cherry liqueur demi-glace flavours, grippy cedar tannins and underling mocha oak. Chocolaty finish. Impressive in stature and power. 14.5% alc Drink 2026–2034 Penfolds Bin 51 Riesling 2024 G 94+ Pale almost watery colour. Lovely intense and lifted lime zest, lemon curd, mandarin, orange blossom aromas. Classical lime pastille, lemon curd, touch camomile, hint ginger flavours, fine loose knit chalky textures and fresh long pure quartz acidity. Finishes al-dente and minerally. Beautifully balanced and flavourful wine with lovely fruit definition and purity. Should develop well with bottle age. 11% alc Drink now–2030 Poonawatta 1919 Shiraz 2021 G 94+ Deep crimson. Intense dark plum, black cherry, mocha aromas. Fresh dark berry, praline, mocha, vanilla flavours and slinky dry textures. Finishes chocolaty, a touch oaky and minerally, with some liquorice notes. New oak should fold into the fruit and integrate with some bottle age. 15% alc Drink 2025–2034 St Hugo Wines Lorke Shiraz 2022 G 94+ Deep crimson. Intense and expressive liquorice, graphite, dark cherry, petrichor aromas. Inky deep wine with ample dark cherry, blackberry pastille fruits, fine slinky tannins and well-balanced savoury oak. Finishes chewy firm with aniseed, minerally notes. Lovely purity and energy. Single vineyard wine. Drink 2025–2036 Tim Smith Shiraz 2022 G 94+ Deep crimson. Classical choco-berry aromas with panforte notes. Richly flavoured wine with ample dark chocolate, dark berry fruits, plentiful chocolaty tannins and marzipan/cedarwood/touch bourbon new oak notes. Finishes chocolaty firm with a spike of aniseed. Very likable punter’s wine, rather than a critic’s choice. 14.5% alc Drink 2024–2028
