COMMENTS All heavy crops
Montils Picpoul Terret Bourret RED GRAPES Aramon
Long, heavy black bunches ‘like a swarm of bees’ A fine crop of heavy bunches, not unlike aramon
Bobal
Bearing a heavy crop
Bouschet hybrids Alicante Bouschet Cabernet Sanzey
A more prolific selection of the well-known quality grape The favourite grape of Algeria, bears a heavy crop and is overall disappointing in yields and quality
Carignan
Long known as Blue Imperial and also, erroneously, as Black Hamburg Red juiced grapes of remarkable high colour
Cinsaut
Grand Noir de la Calmette
Tempranillo & Miguel de Arca Two Spanish sorts of great promise WHITE WINES Alicante Bouchet
Rather disappointing; not equal to previous vintages (very heavy yielding in 1917: 7 tons/acre) Disappointing, compared to previous vintages
Aramon
Somewhat similar to the last
Aramon Gris
Better than last; a rather nice wine
Bobal
The best of the red wines submitted; a very fine wine; great body and marked cabernet character
Cabernet Sauzey
A rather nice wine, clean and good
Calagrano
The saumur grape; a good wine but not equal to melon
Chenin
A fair wine, not so neutral as the last
Citronelle Colombard
A full wine; the grapes when gathered were much shrivelled; this unfavourably influenced the wine
