Flight schedules between Australia and overseas improved after the nationalisation of the Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service (Qantas). This was also mirrored by expanded interstate flights operated by the government-owned Trans Australia Airlines (TAA), which connected all major cities with passenger and freight flights. This enabled wineries to improve their post-war trade networks around Australia. Rationing of meat and clothing also ended as the economy returned to some form of normality. But it was clear that Australia would never be the same. The influx of immigrants, the excitement of nation-building, and a genuine outward-looking multicultural society primed the Australian wine industry to start investing in the production of table wine. 1946 YANGARRA HIGH SANDS VINEYARD McLaren Vale, South Australia

The High Sands Vineyard, comprising 4.2 acres of bush-vine grenache vines, is located on dry-grown ‘North Maslin’ sands believed to date back over 50 million years. The vineyard comprises several blocks: 23, 24, 25, 29, 30, and 31. Block 29 consists of sandy loam soils, while the others are fine white sand over clay. Planted in 1946, the High Sands Vineyard is a leading contender for Australia’s most important grenache vineyard.
