CHAPTER 17 | 1930–1938 – The Dead Dog Bounce
1930 SEPPELT ST PETERS VINEYARD Great Western, Victoria
St Peters Vineyard was named in honour of the first commercial vineyard in Great Western, which began as a vegetable garden but was expanded with a half-acre vineyard by Jean Pierre Trouette and his wife, Marie Blampied, in 1863. Between 1864 and 1866, plantings increased to around 15 acres, and the vineyard was named St Peters. Seppelt St Peters Vineyard, situated on weathered volcanic soils, was planted around 1930 with shiraz cuttings, with roots connected to the original 1860s plantings.
