Angas King Reserve Shiraz 2018

G 95

From a stellar vintage in the Barossa, the colour here is deep red with a gentle lightening on the rim. Under cork. The use of quality fruit is evident here and there is impressive oak integration. The nose gives us notes of chocolate, aniseed, vanilla, black fruits, mocha and dried herbs. A sleek texture, this is still fresh and vibrant with good focus and very serious length. There is a line of underlying acidity running the full journey. Enjoy this over the next 10–15 years. If you like your Barossa Valley reds bold and rich, this is for you. A stunner. Drink now–2040 Arila Gardens Single Vineyard Grenache 2023 G 95 Medium-deep crimson. Fresh red cherry strawberry aromas with hint of roasted walnut complexity. Very attractive pure red cherry, redcurrant, musky plum, cola flavours and fine slinky/ chalky textures. Builds to a minerally firm finish. Plenty of light and shade with ever-changing fruit nuances. Drink now–2028+ Auld Family Wines William Patrick Single Vineyard Shiraz 2021 G 95 The team’s flagship wine, and tribute to their great-grandfather, makes a reappearance after its previous incarnation from 2018 – obviously, this is an organisation that means what it says when we hear that the wine will be released only from the very best years. Under Diam, the wine saw a year maturing in quality French oak. This is deep purple in colour. The nose exhibits notes of cloves, liquorice, blackberries and blueberries, graphite, mocha, soy and beef stock. There is excellent oak integration here. This is a rich and hedonistic wine with impeccable balance, vibrant acidity, silky tannins and a long and persistent finish. A worthy flagship wine from the Barossa, if ever there was one. Fifteen years. Drink now–2040 Barr Eden Estate Dreams of Gold Shiraz 2024 G 95 Deep crimson. Fresh black cherry, blackberry, dark plum, hint cinnamon aromas with dark chocolate notes.
