Sawyer Rosé Pinot Meunier 2024
G 90
100% pinot meunier that has a feel of what it brings to traditional method sparkling/ Champagne. It’s not your usual light and breezy Rosé; instead has quite a bit more weight and structure, which does give it a unique place in the genre, with a tannin profile that makes this the kind of Rosé you could place beside a table of barbecue meats. Drink now–2028 Seven Eves Chardonnay 2024 G 90 Straightforward, fruit-focused Chardonnay from the Macclesfield district, crafted unhindered by huge oak influence or winemaker interference. The fruit notes are easy-going, with a faint crème caramel edge at one end, flavour rather than sweetness, and subtle citrus at the other. Everyday drinking. Drink now–2028 Sidewood Estate Stablemate Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 G 90 Smells of everything Cabernet. Quite muscly in structure as expected, with a savoury, bay leaf and woody underfloor feel to the palate. Good value. Drink now–2030 Somos Mencia 2022 G 90 Fleshy and grapey to begin, then chewy as it enters the mouth, earthy and rustic, with a mid-weight sensibility through the palate. A black sapote kind of fruit vibe, texture and flavour, matcha as well. Its savoury directions are clear to see. Drink now–2030 Somos Climate Appropriate or nothing Chardonnay 2025 G 90 Approach this wine with an open mind. Dried pear, sweet apple, pressed blossoms and sea succulents. The colour is bronzing, showing oxidative tones of apple seed, skin and a touch of cider on the palate. It drinks deliciously – the balance of texture, acid and fruit weight is solid. Drink now. I doubt it will improve with time. Drink now–2029 Te Lane Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2025 G 90 Open and easy. Freshly mown lawn and homemade lemonade – the kind you drink when the job’s done. The palate follows with white pineapple, passionfruit and lemon balm, finishing on a chalky note. Drink now–2029 The Pawn Wine Co Shiraz 2021 G 90 All big and charry, rum and raisin with 70% cacao running deep. You can feel all the alcohol sweetness and warmth – something my old man would love. Black fruits, broad-shouldered, with a bit of steel-cap-mining-wearing charm. Drink it around a fire, with a steak. Drink now–2029
