Wide-eyed and bursting with aromatics right now. Simple, harmless, and all the better for it. Drink now–2029 Artwine Saint Vincent Pinot Noir 2023 G 90 Estate grown in the Woodside district, there’s already a little development now, the nose with a woody, leafy, and foresty backdrop, black cherry poking through, oak showing. The earthiness defines the style. Drink now–2028 Bleasdale Sauvignon Blanc 2025 G 90 Straight-into-it tropical fruit salad aromas, with a faint backlight of honey biscuit. A little creamy meets acidity in the palate, all the right flavours seeing through. Does all the right things. Drink now–2027 Catlin Pinot Gris 2025 G 90 Wild and savoury, more than pretty and reserved. Grilled pears, peach purée and sweet spices – the latter, potentially from oak. It feels low-intervention, yet clearly played with in the winery. Kaffir lime leaf, key lime slice and yoghurt. It finishes late and long, wrapped in a textural cocoon. This is a big wine – in fruit concentration, work and texture – and all the better for it. Drink now–2029 Cobbs Hill Pioneer Pinot Noir 2023 G 90 Savoury and incredibly unoffensive. Bay leaf, dried cranberry and strawberry skin. It’s a simple little comfort, carrying that easy, bunchy feel. The tannins are gentle by nature, the finish in quiet harmony with the start. Youthful and fresh, with plenty of bounce. Grilled pears, torn blossom and gun flint. And, of course, the apples – fresh, green, crunchy, and inclusive of seeds. Drink now–2029 EKIN Wine Co Chardonnay 2024 G 90 Easy-going, uncomplicated style, a little spicy wood through the palate gives this a sense of the variety’s depths. Everyday drinks. Drink now–2028
