Teakles Hill Pirouette Gamay 2025

G 92

Feels like the Amalfi Coast – minus the airfare. Sun-soaked, slightly scandalous, and built for afternoons that smell of sunscreen and Aperol spritz. Orange jubes, mandarin oil and saffron. I like its style – big and voluptuous, daring and a little giddy. The palate rolls on with generous weight and an abundance of ripe fruit – a peach and berry salad, with a touch of Stracciatella cheese. A gentle grip on the finish pulls the acid and fruit into easy consonance. Drink now–2029 The Lane Vineyard Shiraz, Viognier 2022 G 92 Very welcoming Shiraz notes to begin, some reduction, with blacksmithy suggestions to begin, as well as attractive blue florals and darker spice. The palate is thick and chewy, with some meatiness, with peppery notes and sweet plum fruits swelling in the palate. All good. Drink now–2030 Totino Estate Altezza Pinot Grigio 2025 G 92 Sourced from the estate vineyard in the Paracombe district, the aromas have familiar apple with some stone fruit senses as well, white peach in the mix. These reverb in the palate with a decent squeeze of lemon in flavour as well as citrussy acidity to drive the wine. It’s quite full in flavour while zingy through the lines. Drink now– 2028 Turon Pinot Noir 2024 G 92 Rocky, earthy senses stamp their feel on the opening, with that special character of pinot fruit and spice rising to the fore in the palate, with sticky tannins adding a chewiness in the finish. Does its Pinot thing with ease. Drink now–2032 Unico Zelo Birdwood Nero d’Avola 2022 G 92 An elevated version of Nero for the Unico Zelo crew, under cork in an impressive bottle. There’s a rich vein here, blacksmithy notes, flint, earthy more than vibrant berries, though the acidity in the palate lifts the fruit, with varietal raisin notes visible, crunchy and lively. Will shine more beside big bowls of ragu. Drink now– 2032 Vinteloper Pinot Gris 2024 G 92 The faintest of blushes, courtesy of pinot gris’ unique greyish skin colour, which also brings a more earthy, rose-like tone to the aromas. It’s spicy, with a sense of oak in the flavour feels, and a light spray of tannins to finish what is a more “serious” take on the style. Drink now–2030
