Karrawatta Ace of Trumps Grand Vin Shiraz 2018

G 90

From vines planted in 2001 and matured for 18 months in 50% new French oak. Under natural cork, this is showing its middle life with black fig, violet and leaf litter. Ancho chillies and mocha spice. Some red goji berries on the palate, sumac and Chambord liqueur. It’s juicy fruited but with significant after dinner coffee savouriness. Drink now. Mr Riggs Mr Brightside, GenX Preservative Free Shiraz 2025 G 90 Purple and inky in the glass, the wine continues with robust flavours of beet skin, blackberries and cigar. Some ribena cordial intensity but with acute accents of acidity. This is well handled and delivers clean and deliberate intense Shiraz flavours with a sweep of long black coffee and poppyseed spice. You can rely on Mr Riggs’ consistent quality here in this preservative-free wine. Drink now–2027

Mr Riggs Three Corner Jack Shiraz, Montepulciano 2023

G 90

Mr Riggs has always offered wines of value for very few dollars; this is another winner in that domain. The depths of spice from Montepulciano add edge and shape to the succulent and richness of Shiraz. Some bay leaf and salted liquorice add another pique of interest. The elevation of site lifting the fragrance high with violet and blueberry. It’s a wine that would satisfy most and please many. Add this to your next party or wedding menu and you’re set for a good time. Drink now–2028 Penny’s Hill Edwards Road Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 G 90 From a small 5-acre site planted in 1993. Blackberries on the thorny stems, this is potent with black fruit, fig and clove. A wealth of underbrush, chocolate mint and bundles of thyme. Fruit is ripe on the palate and balanced by some perky raspberry compote. Oak provides the dry and grainy tannins, some maple and cedar coming through. A T-bone steak with herb sauce would work well. Drink now–2030 Richard Hamilton La Valle Fiano 2024 White melon, pineapple core and some sweet basil leaves. Crushed cashew, lemon juice and poached pear. A tingling and acute line of acidity, followed by lemon and piña colada creaminess. This will pick you up, dust you off and have you moving in no time. Full of pineapple crunch and vigour. A dry finish but with plenty of tropical fruit smack. Drink now. G 90
