Oliver’s Taranga Vermentino 2025
G 91
Winter melons, nashi skin and star fruit. A hint of young almond, raw pine nut and lemon pith. Salinity is a real feature of this vintage, followed by succulent acidity and yellow citrus. A crisp dryness that bodes well for shellfish, salt and vinegar hot chippies and other beachside fares. A wine for many occasions. Drink now–2028 Pertaringa Understudy Shiraz 2023 G 91 For under $35 you can find a basket of black, blue and red berries. A sphere of blueberry, black cherries and some mulberry. Some pomegranate seeds come through on the palate. There is a base of potting soil, rich dark chocolate and cassis too. Tannins are taut and powdery, with enough acidity to provide the wine with its affable drinkability before poppyseed on the finish. This is a pool of dark fruits and spice, interwoven into a medium-bodied sip. A nice number to have with steak and kidney pie.
