Mr Riggs The Gaffer Shiraz 2023
G 91
There are many reasons you should buy this wine – buy and drink it often. It offers the tantalising florals and animation that only the Vale can bring and delivers it right to the heart of your mid palate with impact. All for under $30. Some carob and coffee spice underlies the fruit and a hint of cinnamon on the tail end. Always good value. Drink now–2028 Nick Haselgrove Blackbilly Chardonnay 2025 G 91 Some summer peach and melon in this bright style of Adelaide Chardonnay. Lemon leads the citrus, with almond, honeysuckle and grapefruit. Here, the fruit is naturally ripe and unforced by heavy oak influence, some yoghurt creaminess and a very clean pear skin finish. A touch of light cinnamon sugar. Just nicely nipped and tucked with rounded oak and natural acidity, very elegant, and good value. Drink now–2028
Oliver’s Taranga Brionis blend Touriga, Mataro, Mencia 2025
G 91
The Touriga, Mataro and Mencia blend surely has its loyal buyers and more than the like of those named Brioni. It’s a blackcurrant, cassis jubey dream with some spearmint and chipotle spice. A coolness of touch, the wine feels lifted on the palate and makes for refreshing drinking. This could be served with a slight chill and is a wonderful wine for party pies and sausage rolls. It’s a good time. Drink now–2028
Oliver’s Taranga Grenache 2025
G 91
An exhibition of soft crimson berries, fig hearts and kangaroo paw. There is brown sandy soil, cumin and mace spice too. Acidity is kept tailored and mellow with some powdery tannins. This is designed for immediate enjoyment, and works nicely to show Grenache’s lofty aromas but with a creamy and fulfilling middle palate that everyone will enjoy. Drink now–2028 Oliver’s Taranga Chica Rose Mencia 2025 G 91 Watermelon slushies, strawberry gels and blush nectarines. A hint of lemon juice and peach tea. The wine follows the same enticing line with a wash of uplifting acidity and some cool watermelon fruit in the middle palate. A dry wine but all the tutti-frutti fun, well balanced between thirst quenching and a touch of grapefruit skin bitterness. Hard to go past this on a hot day, enjoyed bobbing along in a pool float, large sunglasses, and ignoring the world. Drink now–2027
