Hugh Hamilton Blackout Fortified Saperavi 2024

G 92

Saperavi juice is fortified on skins and aged in bourbon casks. Perhaps a wine you should buy just to watch the reaction of your guests as you pour it into the glass. It’s glistening with deepest nightshade, viscous and staining in the glass. Watch the tears and you’ll be mesmerised. The nose shows the heady bourbon woodsy spice. Prune, sandalwood and anise with a cassis thread throughout. Sweetness is carefully measured with plenty of dry tannins to wipe the palate clean. A wonderful drinking experience and with a handful of fresh mulberries over hokey pokey ice cream… a wonder. Drink now–2035 In Praise of Shadows Ki Fiano 2025 G 92 This is the light foot and joy of Fiano with the deep-laid texture and mirth hidden beneath. Honeysuckle, lemon aspen and pineapple core. Beeswax, pine and myrtle. There is a cooling sea spray salinity intermixed with crème fraîche. A wine for sushi, fried chicken or whole snapper. A detailed Fiano with real personality. Drink now– 2030 In Praise of Shadows Mankai Garnacha, Graciano, Touriga, Monastrell 2024 G 92 A dynamic blend of Grenache, Graciano, Touriga and Monastrell with an emphasis on purity of fruit and spirited energy. There are raspberries, blackberries and a hint of violet. Some dusty soil and black stone. The palate highlights some chewy poppyseed and cardamom pod. A wine for any time and for almost anything you throw on the table. Drink now–2028 Karawatta Ali ’s Rosé Grenache 2025 G 92 A delicate rose quartz hue in the glass. The wine opens with Pink Lady apple flesh, white raspberries and orange tang. Grenache’s suitability for making bright, red fruited and elegant Rosé is here in spades. This is quite the pretty thing, with juicy acidity that avoids the squeaky tartness. Its three months’ oak ageing might be the cause of its lovely oval shape on the palate. It’s bone dry but with lingering raspberries and summer fruits. Salmon nigiri would be on point here. Summer, come at me! Drink now–2030

Oliver’s Taranga Falanghina 2025

G 92

Lemongrass, Poire William, radish and lemon balm. There is a slight grassy herbal lift that is intriguing. The palate highlights some oiliness on the palate, ginger syrup and packed full of turmeric and bitter roots. Fascinating stuff and a wine that could take the right dish to new dimensions. I would go for clams in white wine and garlic sauce. Drink now–2030
