Knappstein Enterprise Vineyard Riesling 2025

G 93

The vineyard that started it all, planted in 1969, and still going strong, producing a serious Riesling of note. Fresh squeezed lime juice, grapefruit pith and herbal, lemongrass aromas. Tight as a drum and framed in assertive acidity ready for the journey ahead. Its core rests on a bed of lemon-lime pulp flavours, apple and layers of Asian herbs, ginger and lemongrass. Sherbet-fresh and tingling. Delicious now, but just wait.… Drink now–2036

Koerner Vivian Sangiovese 2023

G 93

A striking purple-cherry red colour comes accompanied by some typical Sangiovese Brio – all bright, cherry-infused, savoury and dry. Red cherry, wild raspberry, sour cherry, thyme, earth and clay pot flavours range wide across the palate, seasoned nicely with a good lick of baking spices. Maturation in 2000L foudre for 15 months issues the wine with a grainy, chalky dry texture, showing plenty of spark. Lively sour cherry notes to close. Drink now–2033 Leo Buring Clare Valley Dry Riesling 2025 G 93 Winemaker Marie Clay continues to confirm her status as a serious maker of quality Riesling with a wine that defies the early, warm, dry ‘25 vintage to reveal quintessential Clare lime-citrus intensity. Lime invades the senses: lime blossom, lime cordial and candied rind aromas blend in with lemon and a splash of lemongrass. Keen acidity aids the zesty freshness of the palate, and a touch of residual sugar (4g/L) goes nicely with the splash of Asian lemongrass and pea shoots. Drink now–2031 O’Leary Walker Watervale Nero d’Avola 2023 G 93 Nero is making great strides in the Clare Valley. It’s definitely a grape to watch, as it shows in ’23, not the easiest of vintages, where it produces a delicious, textural treat fully exploiting the grape’s depth of black cherries, blueberry and mulberry fruit, alight in crushed herbs and earth with a lick of lingering anise and oak spice. Framed in supple, reliable tannins, it’s bright in acidity. In other words, everything is here for good drinking now and into the medium term. Drink now–2030 Pauletts 109 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 G 93 A blend of fruit from Pauletts’ Watervale and Polish Hill River vineyards. A quiet, almost unassuming start with aromas of dried leaf, briar, earth, cassis, violet florals and oak. Walks a fine tannin line across the palate, dry and chalky, with dark herbals and fruit still a little restrained and Cabernet taut. It’s a wine that won’t be rushed. Watch it age reliably.
