Anthologist Saperavi Shiraz 2023

G 93

An unusual red wine blend sees saperavi, the grape of Georgia, joining with shiraz to produce a full-blooded, firmly structured, sweet-fruited, robust young red. Deep purple-crimson colour. Aromas of panforte, plum cake, black fruits, liquorice, vanilla and dark spice. Delivers what it promises, ripe and strong in black fruits, creamy spice, chocolate and expressive vanillin oak on a bed of firm, ripe tannins. Built for partnering with barbecue meats. Drink now–2030 Claymore Wines Superstition Watervale Reserve Riesling 2025 G 93 Shows its Watervale pedigree style from the start with a rising citrus lime perfume and floral aromatics. So pretty. Combines the aromatic with a strong sense of citrus in lime cordial, ripe apple, gentle spice and some exotic ginger and kaffir lime notes. Juicy and full of life, it carries a bright acid spine. Time is on its side. Drink now–2033 Grosset Apiana Fiano 2025 G 93 According to the winemaker, the 2025 vintage was a “test,” one of extreme dry and warm weather. Needless to say, Fiano, which is built for dry, warm conditions, passed the test and has gone on to produce an elegant, understated, lightly savoury young white. Pear skin, poached pear, citrus and quince scents move onto a palate that combines a juicy phenolic texture broadening to bring in some savoury, bitter almond and honeyed notes. Acidity keeps things fresh and alive. Drink now–2030 Kilikanoon Prodigal Grenache 2023 G 93 Prodigal boasts honest, upfront vibrant fruit and, boy, it’s mighty good fruit at that. Deep cherry red hues. Launches into lifted red cherry, black cherry and plum aromas with Grenache-style confection and potpourri aromatics, wild herbs, mint and a splash of pepper. It’s a bright and zippy number, full of energy and verve. Full of plummy, red-fruited approachable appeal on the palate with red liquorice spice, black pepper and a touch of rosemary. Tannins are supple, acidity is bright and the effect is texturally smooth, summery and bright. Drink now–2028 Kilikanoon Morrison Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 G 93 Dark, impenetrable in colour and dense in flavour, Morrison comes embedded deep in a world of ripe dark fruit and spice, vanillin oak and firm tannins. It is a wine noted for its power and concentration, and it doesn’t disappoint. Further ageing is recommended as the layers of blackberry, cassis and crushed herbs, briar and earth, warm, toasty, vanillin oak and firm tannins meld and come together. Has longevity in its DNA. Drink now–2039
