Cimicky Wines Shiraz 2023

G 90

Maturation here was in American oak, 7% of which was new. There is also a dollop (the technical term for 4%) of new French oak. Very dark maroon hue, the nose offers notes of chocolate, cold tea, spice hints, cassis, blackberries, graphite, bay leaves and a hint of leather. Quite a range of attractive flavours to be enjoyed. There is good acidity and fine tannins, but just at the moment, the wine is a touch short. Drink now–2030 Eisenstone SR806 Moppa Shiraz 2022 G 90 Medium-deep crimson. Intense raspberry confit, blueberry, dried plum aromas with mocha, touch coconut notes. Well-rounded, supple and loose-knit in texture with ample sweet red and black berry fruits, slinky tannins and underlying nutty, spicy, coconut notes. Builds up bittersweet at the finish. Drink now–2034 First Drop Cold Sweat Craneford Syrah 2021 G 90 For me, this series has some of the best packaging seen for a while. The wine itself is very dark maroon in colour. There are notes of spices, mushrooms, florals, aniseed, leaf litter, cold tea and dark fruits in what is very much a savoury style. The wine is of medium length and it does fade a fraction quickly. It finishes with very fine tannins. A wine for drinking sooner than one might expect from this style. Drink now–2029 Gatt Wines High Eden Riesling 2023 G 90 Pale colour. Lifted verbena, lemon, lime aromas with hints of oil skin. Flavourful and impactful with deep-set lemon curd, verbena, oily flavours, fine slinky textures and vibrantly fresh acidity. Finishes bittersweet. Drink now–2038 Gatt Wines Old Vine Shiraz 2020 G 90 Medium-deep crimson. Earth blackberry dark chocolate aromas with flint garrigue notes. Richly concentrated earthy blackberry walnutty flavours, chocolaty textures and fresh integrated acidity. Bittersweet finish. Drink now–2042 Grant Burge Wines Filsell Shiraz 2023 G 90 Deep crimson. Blackberry, elderberry, graphite aromas with herbgarden notes. Slurpy/ juicy wine with blackberry, mulberry fruits, sinuous tannins and fresh pure long acidity. Some flinty, earthy notes at the finish. Still needs time to evolve. Drink now–2034
