Mecklen Grenache, Shiraz 2024

G 92

This blend is dominated by Grenache which comes from the Cockatoo Valley sub- region. The Shiraz is from the Gomersal sub-region. The blend is 68/32% and the wine spent time maturing in old oak. A vibrant purple/maroon colour, the nose reveals notes of plums, cherries, red currants, mulberries, dry herbs, milk chocolate and kirsch. A wine of medium length with firm tannins and good focus, this is attractive now and should continue to drink well for at least the next 5–6 years. Drink now–2031

Monteperle Shiraz 2022

G 92

From the Lyndoch sub-region in the Barossa Valley, the team take fruit from a range of blocks across the district to ensure complexity. Maturation is in a combination of 25% new American oak and 75% seasoned French oak. This is an earthy style with an opaque purple hue. We have aromas of dried herbs, blackcurrants, smoked meats, spices, plums and mushrooms. There is good underlying power here, though the length at this stage can best be described as medium. A soft and seductive texture with fine tannins, there is plenty to like with this delicious wine, but for it to go to the next level, it does need a touch more length. Enjoy it over the next 4–7 years. Drink now–2032 Monteperle Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 G 92 A fine example of the great Aussie red blend, Shiraz and Cabernet, from the Barossa Valley. The colour here is a very dark maroon. The nose reveals notes of cassis, cocoa powder, liquorice, blackcurrants, cherry, cherries, chocolate and mulberries. Attractive ripe notes throughout, with bay leaves also making an appearance. The wine is of medium length with fine tannins and a gentle fade. Enjoy it over the next

6–8 years. Drink now–2033 Murray Street Greenock Grenache 2021

G 92

Grenache from the Greenock subregion in the Barossa, this comes from blocks planted in 1948 and 1970. It was given nine months’ maturation in a mix of concrete tanks, Italian concrete and terracotta amphora and old French oak puncheons. 2021 is, of course, fast becoming a legendary vintage. Fermentation saw the inclusion of 20% whole bunches. Under Diam. Crimson/blood red in colour, the nose reveals notes of raspberries, spices, red cherries, hints of tomato bush, aniseed and herbs. Good acidity, this is a wine that is medium length, seductive in style, with a lingering finish and sleek tannins. Enjoy over the next eight years. Drink now–2033
