Kaesler Wines Old Vine Shiraz 2023

The colour for this delicious Barossa Shiraz is a deep dark cherry red. The nose reveals a gentle touch of vanillin oak, along with spices, black cherries, raspberries, milk chocolate, cranberries and kirsch. Lovers of Barossa Shiraz will find this an utterly delicious style. There are fine yet firm tannins, good length and we see touches of dry herbs emerge on the palate. Lots to like here. Under cork. Medium-deep crimson. Attractive red plum, dark chocolate herb aromas. Sweet red plum, cassis flavours persistent chalky textures and underlying marzipan, vanilla notes. Finishes lightly grippy with hint wax polish/ tobacco notes. Drink now–2030 Lienert Vineyards Jack West Single Origin Shiraz 2022 G 92 Deep red in hue, it is red fruits which are to the fore here. Cranberries, cherries, red apples, raspberries and a pleasing touch of cherry pie. There is focus, direction and fine balance, with a lingering finish. Satiny and very fine tannins, juicy acidity and good intensity for the full journey. There is more elegance here than is found in many of its contemporaries. Enjoy over the next 8–10 years. Drink now–2035 Lienert Vineyards Tierra del Puerco Field Marshall Shiraz 2022 G 92 A curious name with a rather tenuous link to the wine – hardly the first wine to which we can say that about, and certainly not the most feeble connection – as Field Marshall was the name of the team’s prized pig. They figured that Shiraz was their prized grape, so we have… A dark garnet colour here, the nose reveals notes of spices, smoked meats, raspberries, dried herbs, darker fruits and even a flick of Vegemite. That Vegemite character is a little more prevalent on the palate. There is good length here, a persistent finish and firm tannins. A wine for enjoying anytime over the next decade. Good buying. Drink now–2035
