Chaffey Bros. Wine Co Not Your Grandma’s Rosé Grenache, Mourvèdre 2025

G 93

Ideal varieties for a succulent Barossa Valley Rosé, the team have also included a dollop of white varieties from the Eden Valley, for the “X factor”. As I have said elsewhere, my grandmother, wonderful woman that she was, was actually convinced that any hint of alcohol meant eternal damnation so, yes, definitely not my grandmother’s Rosé. The palest pink hue here, this is fresh, enticing and focused. We have notes of florals, a touch of muscat, strawberries and raspberries. A pristine style with good energy and impressive intensity, this is both alluring and delicious. A fine line of acidity runs the length. A seriously good Rosé which, for me, is a step up on last year’s very fine effort. Enjoy it now and for the next three years. Love it. Drink now–2028 Chaffey Bros. Wine Co Synonymous Shiraz 2021 G 93 Wonderful value here. The name is a nod to the undeniable fact that Shiraz is very much synonymous with the Barossa Valley, and indeed, the Eden Valley. A barrel selection. The colour is a near opaque maroon. A classic, indeed typical, Barossa Shiraz which is just gorgeous drinking. Generous and approachable, we have notes of chocolate, aniseed, leather and blackberries. Hints of cassis and mocha start to emerge on the palate. The structure is seamless, the wine fresh, dense and well balanced, with very good length and supple tannins. Enjoy this over the next decade. Drink now–2035 Chateau Tanunda Grand Barossa Shiraz 2023 G 93 Medium-deep crimson. Pure blackberry aniseed aromas with dark chocolate notes. Ripe blackberry liquorice flavours, plentiful chalky/ al-dente fine textures and fresh long acidity. Juicy, buoyant and smooth. Very good value. Drink now–keep for a while
