Lovely blackberry, dark plum aromas with marzipan, vanilla notes. Inky deep and bittersweet with attractive blackberry dark plum fruits, vigorous chewy/ cedary tannins and underlying savoury notes. Claret-firm with graphite notes at the finish. Drink now–2036 Shanahans Wines The Reaper Shiraz 2023 G 94 The wine spent two years in oak before being bottled under Diam. The colour is a deep maroon with a crimson rim. The nose reveals notes of juicy black cherries, plums, tobacco leaves and black fruits. No lack of tannins here, but they are fine and sleek. The wine has good balance, is of medium weight and has impressive length. The oak has been deftly handled and is well-integrated. A wine with real promise. Drink now–2037 Sorby Adams St Hugh’s Shiraz 2022 G 94 From the eastern districts of the Barossa, the final wine in Simon’s trilogy (is there a collective noun for saints? Google tells me not, but allows communion, though the communion wine I remember from my youth bears no resemblance to this, thankfully). The wine spends 24 months in French oak. An opaque maroon hue, this is the most elegant of the trio. The nose gives us notes of black cherries, florals, spices, blueberries and a touch of vanilla as the oak integration proceeds. There is impressive length here and a fine balance, with silky tannins on a long and lingering finish. Really impressive stuff, this will drink beautifully for a decade. Drink now– 2035 St Hallett Faith Shiraz 2024 G 94 Deep crimson. Lovely dark chocolate, brambly, dark cherry, blackberry aromas with hints of liquorice. Generous and velvety in structure with plentiful chocoberry fruits and underlying mocha notes. Finishes chocolaty and minerally with ample chinotto, sweet fruit notes. Drink now–2032
