Ample raspberry, musky plum fruits, fine loose-knit chalky textures, attractive mid-palate volume and persistent crisp acidity. Finishes long with bittersweet notes. Builds richness and complexity in the glass. Drink now–2030 Mecklen Old Vine Grenache 2023 G 95 The fruit used here is from a single, dry-grown vineyard, more than a century old, which is located in the Cockatoo Valley sub-region. Maturation is in older French oak barrels. This is a seriously impressive regional Grenache. Amazing value. Winemaker Bernard Hickin has been behind some of the biggest names in the Barossa and now turns his hand to a small family operation. Hard to imagine that it will be long before there is no more hiding in the shadows, when you are releasing wines of this calibre. The colour is a pale crimson/garnet. An utterly gorgeous nose with notes of strawberries, herbs, florals, aniseed, kirsch, smoked meats and red fruits. This is an exquisite wine with a supple texture, finally balanced, with sleek tannins and very good length. Enjoy it over the next 8–10 years. Drink now–2035
