Yangarra Estate Roussanne 2024

G 92

Matured for seven months in 1–3-year-old French oak puncheons and cocciopesto amphora. The golden hues of new mango, peach and nashi pear unfold with lemon tea and some grapefruit skin citrus. The wine halos around ginger and honey, with Roussanne’s amiable muscle and curves. A freshness of coconut water extends the palate. This is battered white flaky fish territory, perfect for summer luncheons. Drink now–2028 Coriole Fiano 2025 G 91 Rainier cherries, peach and cantaloupe. There is a springtime posy of flowers and the warm sunshine of morning. A slight hint of musk melon. It’s again generous on the palate with that musk and honeysuckle coming through, a note of candied ginger and nutmeg. Plenty of layers to keep your palate occupied and copious options for pairing, from stretchy yellow cheeses through to fish pie. Drink now–2028 Curtis Cavaliere Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 G 91 A woodsy tree herb is met with blackberries and dark plums. Lead pencil, cinnamon and caraway seed sit on the sidelines. The palate shines a light on the acai fruit with spearmint, boysenberries and graphite. Tannins sit up front, gathered around the middle palate, driving home some of the black-toned fruit. The stellar vintage is showing in its integration of ripe fruit and slinky feel across the palate. This is in a nice drinking window, with another 5–8 years bringing forth those pencil box and treacle-like elements. For now, it would show off a well-charred sirloin nicely. Drink now–2033 Curtis Terra Rossa Shiraz 2024 G 91 A fresh and zingy mix of black and red berries, some mulberry and plenty of mocha and espresso-like aromas too. On the palate there is a jubiness of red raspberry and some saturated cordial-like intensity. The wine finishes with dried redcurrants and sweet tobacco spice. This is drinking well now and will cellar for another 2–3 years, but pour it in a glass tonight with a Bolognese jaffle for a bit of warming up. Drink now–2028 d’Arenberg The Footbolt Shiraz 2022 G 91 Mulberries, black cherry and a touch of glistening blue fruit too. Some sweet mint and blackberry compote. Vanilla oak spice. A densely packed wine with some powdery tannins. Reliably a wine that stuffs in plenty of flavour and intensity for the price tag. Black tea tannins ensure it can hold up in the cellar for a few more years to boot. Drink now–2029
