Clairault Streicker Chardonnay 2022
G 92
Sourced from two sites, 71% Ironstone Vineyard in Wilyabrup and 29% Bridgelane Vineyard in Karridale, this estate Chardonnay offers remarkable value, as do all of the wines from Clairault Streicker. Here, hot sands cradle flavours of candied lemon, baked peach, and crumbling cheesecake crust. Vanilla and clove weave through juicy tropical fruit, with a whisper of limestone salt. It’s nutty and dry, enveloping you in Chardonnay’s warm embrace – orchard fruit, bright citrus, and the smooth richness of melting butter. Let it wash over you while your croque monsieur bubbles away in the oven. Drink now–2028 Marri Wood Park Sauvignon Blanc 2024 G 92 A fully loaded Sauvignon Blanc, showing the tropical and savoury sides of a considered Sauvignon Blanc. Beginning with pineapple skin and yellow papaya, moving to lemon myrtle and mint leaf. Some time in oak rounds out the soaring highs of its elegant acidity, with some raw almond and blue river stones. You are left with a wine that is dry but filled with yellow and green-tinged fruits, some lime oil and an exuberant punch of power and texture. This is designed for seasonal garden things, fat stalks of asparagus, or sauteed leeks and chicken pot pie. Drink now. Moonmilk Pinot Gris Viognier 2024 G 92 Elegant and self-assured. Musk, peach roll-up depth. Wears a silk shawl draped over her shoulders. Perfumed with an elegant, expensive spray. Aromatic and lush. Palate’s oily, fresh, medium-bodied, and has a phenolic kiss. Sweet nectarine and olive oil. A very enjoyable little drink with no hard edges and no complaints. Drink now–2031 Moss Brothers Field of Dreams Chenin Blanc 2025 G 92 It seems that Chenin Blanc still holds a place in the hearts of our friends from the West, who thankfully continue to provide fine examples. This wine spent time in French oak, giving it a slight toasty note and enhancing the texture. The colour is a gleaming yellow straw. The nose exhibits notes of pears, apples, florals, citrus and crushed almonds. Even a hint of stone fruit. A textural style, this is bright and fresh with intensity maintained along what is very good length. A clean finish with fine acidity, no reason that well-cellared examples won’t provide pleasure for a decade. Lots to like here. Drink now–2035
