The Margaret River Wine Guide 2026

UMAMU Estate Chardonnay 2006

G 93

How exciting – it’s still hanging on. Amazing. Caramel, piña colada, and pure wonder. This is the beauty of wine: it captures an era and transports you straight back there. The palate is generous and golden, tasting of riches and storybooks. I’d suggest limiting oxygen when serving; drink it within the evening. More tertiary notes on the palate: nuts, honey … pineapple upside-down cake. Enjoy with Nan. Drink now Passel Estate Cabernet 2019 G 93 Maturation for this excellent Margaret River Cabernet, which already has considerable age under its belt, was for ten months in French oak barriques, 35% of which were new. Deep maroon in colour, the nose reveals notes of smoked meats, black fruits, kirsch, graphite, mushrooms, dried herbs and chocolate with some toasty oak still evident. The wine is of medium to good length and finishes with satiny tannins. A kinder, gentler style of Cabernet, this will provide pleasure for another decade. Drink now–2028
