Marri Wood Park Sparkling Chenin Blanc 20201

G 93

Traditional method 100% Chenin Blanc with four years on lees. Fruit is sourced from a single vineyard. Curls of green apple and feijoa flesh, honeysuckle and jasmine too. There is a honey pot of sweet-smelling spices and a hint of dry clay and sand. The variety’s natural acidity picks up the fruit in waves, surging pineapple and then guava to the forefront. Some toasted pine nut and raw sesame toastiness, with a clean and almost stony finish. Dosage is well built into the wine, acting as a textural base rather than adding any simulated richness. This looks very fresh and spritely and makes a lot of sense for a celebration of Chenin and all that it can do. Drink now or will cellar for another three to six years; don’t underestimate Chenin in the cellar. Gather your friends and have a loaded hot chip party with this one. Drink now–2031 McHenry Hohnen Malbec Cabernet PV Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot 2022 G 93 Chocolate-covered bullets. Yum. You know the wine’s good when that’s the first note. Blackberry, dried sage, and coffee rock. It’s a powerful wine, and definitely one for food, with grippy tannins that don’t want to let go, potentially thanks to the PV inclusion. More dark fruit and dried herbs roll through the palate. Eat with kangaroo steak – it’ll match those grunty tannins perfectly. Drink now–2035

Moss Wood Amy’s Cuvee Blanc 2025

G 93

A superb Margaret River blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, both alluring and seductive. The split is 91% Semillon and 9% Sauvignon Blanc. Fermentation is finished in French oak barriques, before the wine spends another three months in maturation. A shimmering lemon-yellow hue, the nose weaves through a range of aromas, including spices, herbs, lemongrass, grapefruit, gooseberries, lemon curd, citrus, and a flick of passionfruit. Finely balanced, there is good focus and drive here, with impressive length. There is a hint of complexity already evident, and this should increase in the coming years. A cracking white blend which should provide excellent drinking for at least a decade. Drink now–2030 Passel Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2023 G 93 Fresh, crisp, and crunchy. Everything you want from a Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc. It reminds me of sitting by the ocean. Lime zest, passionfruit pith, and a line of chalk. On the palate, the acidity is tight, bright and coastal; aromas slip into flavour with a little more pith and a whisper of almond skin. A refreshing little wine, absolutely built for sunny days. Drink now–2028
